How to Change Starting Zones in WoW Forever
Pick a starting zone your class can support, then follow the trip in either direction.
Classic lets any race quest in another same-faction starting zone, but your class determines how convenient it is. For Forever, check trainers and class quests before moving, especially with the new race and class combinations.

TL;DR
Under Classic rules, any race can quest in any same-faction starting zone; Forever trainer access and class-quest eligibility need checking.
- New combinationsHuman Hunter, Gnome Priest, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, and Forsaken Paladin change the old Classic assumptions.
- Elwynn HuntersForever's database lists Josephine Carson as a Hunter trainer in Elwynn Forest.
- Sea travelBlizzard describes an Auberdine to Stormwind Harbor connection. This guide's sailing directions need an operating-boat check in your build.

Before You Leave Your Starting Zone
Moving means physically traveling to another zone, not changing your race or transferring realms. Most ordinary same-faction quests are open to visitors; race, class, level, and prerequisite restrictions still apply to individual quests. A Night Elf can meet Human friends in Northshire without becoming Human.Classic baseline: Blizzard's WoW Classic manual. Forever quest eligibility is not certified by this manual.
For the November 4, 2026 launch, use the zone checklists to choose where your class will work well. Trainer locations and quest paths marked Classic are baselines, not verified unchanged Forever behavior. Beta database additions are labeled reported; an NPC teaching spells does not prove that it offers your race's class quest. The starting-zone reference maps the default starts, including Skyborne's separate Zephras Isle experience.Launch: Blizzard's Forever overview.
Class Checklists by Starting Zone
✔ Great: convenient early training. ● OK: plan detours. ✘ Avoid: a poor early-level fit. Trainer ✔/✘ covers the outdoor zone, not cities. Quest ✔/✘ means the named objective is here/elsewhere; city handoffs and visitor restrictions still apply. Early village trainers may not teach later ranks.
Trainer times start at the quest town inside each dropdown. They are rough on-foot estimates, not timed Forever runs; add transport waits, deaths, and quest objectives.
Summaries list missing trainers from the rows below; all remain unverified on Forever. Shared areas count both races' trainers, including reported additions. Capitals are separate. Forever's race/class table shows character choices, not trainer locations; these checklists also cover visiting classes.
Checklist Evidence
Each small unverified marker covers that row's Forever trainer services, quest eligibility, and estimated trip. Most entries use the Classic baseline; new Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, and Forsaken Paladin entries use reported beta data or the capture below. Great does not mean verified. Use only your faction's zones.Classic baseline: class guides, Druid overview and trainers, Mage trainers, Priest trainers; reported exceptions: Josephine Carson, Teo Hammerstorm, Rediscovering the Light.

Valley of Trials / Durotar: No Druid or Paladin trainer
Horde. Times below start at Razor Hill. Classic Mage training is in Sen'jin Village. Priest sources disagree about Tai'jin's village; confirm her location in your build.Source conflict: Wowhead's Classic Priest guide lists Sen'jin; the actual Classic quest text for In Favor of Spirituality sends you to Tai'jin in Razor Hill.

Camp Narache / Mulgore: No Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue or Warlock trainer
Horde. Times below start at Bloodhoof Village. Thunder Bluff is a separate city, so its trainers count as a city trip.
| Class | Trainer in this zone? | Nearest trainer | Class quests done here? | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Forever changes the destination, not just character creation. Human Hunters have a reported Elwynn pet chain; Forsaken Paladins have a photographed Deathknell trainer. Dwarf Shamans have database entries for Teo Hammerstorm and new totem quests. A Troll Warlock should not assume an Orc's imp quest accepts Trolls. Gnome Priests and Orc Mages likewise need their new quest eligibility checked.Reported: Elwynn Taming the Beast, linked quest series; Teo Hammerstorm; A Scribbled Letter, whose trainer name and class metadata need checking.

Class Quests and Trainer Gotchas
Druid: Elwynn Is Possible, but Plan the Level-10 Return
Humans cannot choose Druid in Forever's published race/class table. That does not stop a Night Elf Druid from leveling in Elwynn. The Elwynn checklist rates this move OK, with planned training and Bear Form detours. The nearest Classic trainer option is Stormwind's Park, including Sheldras Moontree, rather than a return boat to Darnassus. Forever's spell database still lists Stormwind Druid trainers; their exact positions and services need a current-build check.Classic: Sheldras Moontree; reported Forever trainer list: Regrowth.
The Classic Bear Form chain starts at level 10 and sends a Night Elf through Darnassus to Moonglade; the Tauren chain uses Thunder Bluff. Teleport: Moonglade and Loganaar make later training easier once available, but do not make the opening chain optional or provide a free teleport back to your friends. Keep your hearth at the shared quest hub before teleporting. Skyborne Druids have a new starting experience; do not substitute a Night Elf or Tauren quest script without checking it.
Hunter: Finish the Level-10 Pet Chain Before a Long Move
Classic Hunters learn pet taming through a level-10 quest chain, with different beasts and trainers by race. Use Dazalar in Dolanaar, Grif Wildheart in Kharanos, Thotar in Razor Hill, or Yaw Sharpmane in Bloodhoof as baseline quest contacts. Forever reports Josephine Carson for Elwynn's new chain. A visiting Night Elf should not assume the Human chain is available merely because a Hunter trainer is present.Reported Forever quest series: Orc/Troll Taming the Beast, Elwynn Taming the Beast.
Travel after the pet unlock if the alternative is a second continent crossing at 10. Bring ammunition, food for yourself and the pet, and room for quest items. Check your new pet's diet before stocking food.
Warlock: Get the Imp Before Leaving
The Classic imp chain begins around level 1 to 4 in the home starting area. Finish it before moving. The level-10 Voidwalker chain leads Humans and Gnomes to Gakin in Stormwind, Orcs toward Orgrimmar, and Forsaken toward Undercity, with outdoor objectives as well as trainer visits. Moving the hearth does not move those objectives. Forever's Troll Warlock chain needs its own check; a nearby Orc trainer is not proof of shared quest eligibility.Classic baseline: Gakin's Summons.
Paladin and Shaman: Protect the Class-Quest Trip
Classic Paladins have a level-12 resurrection chain: Humans work through the Stormwind/Elwynn side and Dwarves through Ironforge/Dun Morogh. Later class rewards bring more travel. Forsaken Paladins are new: Forever's database and beta capture connect early healing content to Deathknell and Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal. Do not route them through an Alliance resurrection chain.Reported: A Second Home, Rediscovering the Light.
Classic Horde Shamans start Call of Earth around level 4, then Call of Fire at 10 and Call of Water at 20. Tauren and Orc/Troll Earth starts differ; Fire leads into Durotar and Water involves the Barrens and further travel. Finish Earth before relocating, and budget a return for Fire.
Dwarf Shamans have a different reported route. Forever's database sends Call of Earth back to Teo Hammerstorm in Anvilmar. Call of Fire sends you to Bruegs Kindleborn in Dun Morogh and Braldir Ashmantle in Loch Modan. Keep a Dun Morogh return plan; do not copy a Horde totem walkthrough. Quest availability, exact levels, and turn-in services still need an in-game check.Reported: Call of Earth, Call of Fire opening, Loch Modan step.
Priest, Mage, Rogue, and Warrior
Priests should check racial spell quests at levels 10 and 20 in the Classic baseline, including their own capital's turn-ins. Do not assume a destination race's Priest quest teaches your own racial spell, or invent the Gnome Priest equivalent. A Thunder Bluff city trainer makes Mulgore more workable for a visiting Priest than Camp Narache alone suggests.Classic example: Touch of Weakness sends a Forsaken Priest to Aelthalyste in Undercity.
Mages need regular spell ranks and should check later class errands before leaving the continent. Darnassus has a Classic portal trainer, not a regular spell-rank trainer; that does not solve a low-level Mage's problem. Thunder Bluff has regular Classic Mage trainers despite Tauren not being playable Mages. Race availability is not a complete trainer directory.Baseline: Classic Mage trainers; reported Forever support: Comprehend Scroll trainer list.
Rogues can use another race's ordinary trainer, but early class errands and the later level-20 poison chain can send them elsewhere. The Classic Alliance poison route uses Stormwind and Westfall; the Horde route involves the Barrens and Hillsbrad. Warriors have trainers in all six areas, making them flexible visitors; their Classic level-10 Defensive Stance and weapon quests still require a class-quest plan. Train weapon skills in a city when changing weapon types.
These quest levels and destinations are Classic planning references, not verified Forever unlock schedules.Baseline: Klaven's Tower, Hinott's Assistance; reported Warrior quest mapping: Forever Defensive Stance, quests that teach it.
Travel Between Starting Zones
The travel guide lists reported Alliance boat connections and their limits; the travel planner orders ship legs among the same five Alliance ports and does not cover Zeppelins or flights.
Each direction below is a separate departure-to-arrival walkthrough. Times are rough planning estimates from the starting valley on foot, including ordinary transport waits but excluding deaths, questing, queues, and class detours. They are not timed Forever runs. Roads follow Classic geography; none of these complete trips has been walked in Forever for this guide. Follow transport signs and check the destination with the dock or tower NPC before boarding.
The Alliance sea routes use the Auberdine to Stormwind Harbor connection described by Blizzard, not a presumed direct Rut'theran to Stormwind boat. Client build 1.60.1.70058 also contains that path. Its live operation and exact dock assignments remain untested here. If it is unavailable, postpone the move or arrange a trusted summon; the old Menethil/Wetlands run is a dangerous fallback, particularly in Hardcore.Blizzard: Found Photos recap, New Ways to Travel.
Teldrassil to Elwynn: Meet Friends Near Northshire
Budget 30 to 50 minutes. Level 1 suits a prearranged group only after the sea connection is checked; level 10 after the pet or Bear Form chain avoids a costly return.
- Follow Shadowglen's road through Dolanaar to Darnassus.
- Use Darnassus's pink portal to Rut'theran Village.
- Board the Auberdine boat; confirm the destination first.
- At Auberdine, take the announced Stormwind Harbor connection.
- Cross Stormwind and leave through the Elwynn gate.
- Pass Goldshire; turn north for Northshire Abbey.
Bind in Goldshire after checking your trainer plan. Druids should locate the Stormwind trainer before committing to Elwynn quests.
Elwynn to Teldrassil: Meet Friends in Shadowglen
Budget 30 to 50 minutes. Prefer level 5 to 6 after first training, or after the level-10 class unlock. A supported class can move at 1 with a coordinated group.
- Follow Northshire's road south toward Goldshire.
- Take the road northwest into Stormwind.
- Cross the city to Stormwind Harbor.
- Confirm and board the announced Auberdine connection.
- At Auberdine, board the boat for Rut'theran Village.
- Enter the pink portal to Darnassus.
- Follow the road through Dolanaar to Shadowglen.
Bind in Dolanaar. Mages, Paladins, Warlocks, and Dwarf Shamans should resolve the trainer gap before taking this trip.
Teldrassil to Dun Morogh: Meet Friends in Coldridge
Budget 40 to 65 minutes. After level 10 is the better departure for a Night Elf Hunter or Druid; level 1 trades substantial quest time for immediate grouping.
- Take Shadowglen's road through Dolanaar to Darnassus.
- Use the portal to Rut'theran; sail to Auberdine.
- Confirm the Stormwind Harbor connection, then board.
- Cross Stormwind to the Dwarven District tram entrance.
- Ride the Deeprun Tram to Ironforge.
- Exit Ironforge; follow the road south toward Kharanos.
- Continue southwest through Coldridge Pass into Coldridge Valley.
Bind in Kharanos. A Druid adds a Stormwind training detour; do not expect an Ironforge Druid trainer.
Dun Morogh to Teldrassil: Meet Friends in Shadowglen
Budget 40 to 65 minutes. Finish the imp chain first if relevant; Hunters should consider completing their level-10 pet chain. Mages, Warlocks, Paladins, and Shamans face poor trainer support at the destination.
- Leave Coldridge through Coldridge Pass toward Kharanos.
- Follow the road north and climb to Ironforge.
- Enter the Deeprun Tram in Tinker Town.
- Ride to Stormwind; cross to Stormwind Harbor.
- Confirm and board the announced Auberdine connection.
- Change boats at Auberdine for Rut'theran Village.
- Portal to Darnassus; follow Dolanaar's road to Shadowglen.
Bind in Dolanaar and check the local trainer before restarting quests. The sea legs remain conditional on their availability in your build.
Elwynn to Dun Morogh: Use the Tram
Budget 20 to 35 minutes. Level 1 is reasonable for a group meeting; level 5 to 6 after training is an easier solo departure.
- Leave Northshire for Goldshire, then follow Stormwind's road.
- Enter Stormwind and head to the Dwarven District.
- Enter the Deeprun Tram and ride to Ironforge.
- Exit Ironforge and descend toward Kharanos.
- Follow the southwest road through Coldridge Pass.
- Meet friends in Coldridge Valley; bind later in Kharanos.
The Classic tram is free. Check Forever's operating service locally. A Human Hunter should plan the Elwynn pet quest rather than assume the Dwarf chain accepts Humans.
Dun Morogh to Elwynn: Reverse the Tram Trip
Budget 20 to 35 minutes. Move at 1 for friends, after your imp quest for a Warlock, or after the first training loop for a simpler start.
- Take Coldridge Pass out of the starting valley.
- Pass Kharanos and follow the road up to Ironforge.
- Enter the Deeprun Tram in Tinker Town.
- Ride to Stormwind and exit into the Dwarven District.
- Cross the city and leave through the main gate.
- Follow Goldshire's road, then turn north into Northshire.
Bind in Goldshire. A Dwarf Shaman should keep a return plan for the new class chain rather than count on an Elwynn Shaman trainer.
Tirisfal to Durotar: An Undead Trip to Orc and Troll Friends
Budget 25 to 45 minutes. Level 5 to 6 after training works for many classes; get the imp first. A Forsaken Paladin should stay through the early class chain or arrange repeated Tirisfal returns.
- Leave Deathknell through its eastern exit.
- Follow Tirisfal's roads toward Brill and Undercity.
- Find the zeppelin towers outside Undercity.
- Confirm the Orgrimmar service; avoid the Grom'gol zeppelin.
- Disembark outside Orgrimmar and follow Durotar's road south.
- Pass Razor Hill, then enter the Valley of Trials.
Bind in Razor Hill. This is the Classic zeppelin route; Forever tower assignments and operation require a local check. A Paladin has no Classic Durotar training fallback.
Durotar to Tirisfal: An Orc or Troll Trip to Undead Friends
Budget 25 to 45 minutes. Prefer level 5 to 6 after training. Hunters benefit from finishing the pet chain at 10; Shamans should finish Earth before leaving and plan Fire back in Durotar.
- Leave the Valley of Trials for Razor Hill.
- Follow the road north toward Orgrimmar.
- Find the zeppelin tower outside the city.
- Confirm the Undercity service; avoid Grom'gol.
- Land in Tirisfal and take the road toward Brill.
- Follow the western roads to Deathknell's entrance.
Bind in Brill. The Classic route has no local Hunter or Shaman trainer at the destination; a quiet quest area can still be a poor class choice.
Mulgore to Durotar: Meet Orc and Troll Friends
Budget 40 to 60 minutes. Prefer after level 10 with a group or escort; level 1 is a hazardous Barrens run, and level 10 does not make every road enemy safe.
- Leave Camp Narache for Bloodhoof Village.
- Follow Mulgore's eastern road into the Barrens.
- Pass Camp Taurajo; follow the main road north.
- Reach the Crossroads, then follow the road east.
- Continue to the Southfury bridge into Durotar.
- Reach Razor Hill, then turn south for Valley of Trials.
Bind in Razor Hill. Stay on roads and give higher-level enemies space. Tauren Druids should finish their early class chain and plan Thunder Bluff returns; Durotar lacks a Classic Druid trainer.
Durotar to Mulgore: Meet Tauren Friends
Budget 40 to 60 minutes. Prefer after the level-10 class unlock with an escort; the Barrens crossing is a poor blind level-1 launch experiment.
- Leave Valley of Trials for Razor Hill.
- Follow the west road over the Southfury bridge.
- Continue west to the Crossroads.
- Follow the main road south to Camp Taurajo.
- Turn west through the pass into Mulgore.
- Follow Bloodhoof's road south toward Camp Narache.
Bind in Bloodhoof Village. Hunters, Shamans, and Warriors have useful Classic local support. Priests and Mages can visit Thunder Bluff; Rogues and Warlocks need a larger training detour.
Mulgore to Tirisfal: Meet Undead Friends
Budget 55 to 80 minutes. Prefer after level 10 with an escort; Tauren Druids, Hunters, and Shamans should complete the relevant early class unlock first.
- Take Camp Narache's road through Bloodhoof Village.
- Cross east into the Barrens near Camp Taurajo.
- Follow the main road north to the Crossroads.
- Continue east across the Southfury bridge into Durotar.
- Turn north at Razor Hill toward Orgrimmar's zeppelin towers.
- Confirm and board the Undercity zeppelin.
- Land in Tirisfal; pass Brill and head west to Deathknell.
Bind in Brill. The Barrens crossing and Classic zeppelin service are separate dependencies; check the service before committing. No Classic local Druid, Hunter, or Shaman trainer makes this an awkward Tauren destination.
Tirisfal to Mulgore: Meet Tauren Friends
Budget 55 to 80 minutes. Prefer level 10 or later with an escort. Complete the imp or Forsaken Paladin opening chain first, and check whether your class can train at the destination.
- Leave Deathknell and follow roads toward Brill and Undercity.
- Confirm the Orgrimmar zeppelin at the outside towers.
- Land in Durotar and follow the road to Razor Hill.
- Head west over the Southfury bridge to the Crossroads.
- Follow the main road south to Camp Taurajo.
- Turn west into Mulgore and continue to Bloodhoof Village.
- Follow the road south toward Camp Narache.
Bind in Bloodhoof Village. Forsaken Priests and Mages can plan Thunder Bluff training, but Rogues, Warlocks, and Paladins should budget a return or verified alternative. Do not assume a direct Thunder Bluff to Undercity zeppelin.
Launch Strategy and Moving With Friends
Choose by Congestion and Class, Not Scenery Alone
Elwynn and Durotar are plausible launch hotspots because Humans and Orcs/Trolls share popular meeting routes. Teldrassil, Mulgore, and Tirisfal are candidates for a quieter start, not measured Forever population predictions. Look at actual tag competition and respawns before spending half an hour traveling. New quests, layers, and player choices can change which area is fastest.
Use a speedrunner's tradeoff: travel pays only if time saved later exceeds the trip and class detours. Keep moving between available objectives, group when shared kills help, and skip a bottleneck until it clears. Don't assume leaving the zone beats grouping or an alternate nearby quest loop.
Level 1 or after the first class quest?
Move at level 1 when the group is ready, travel is safe, and the destination supports the class. Otherwise, finish the opening loop and train around 5 to 6. Warlocks should secure the imp; Shamans should finish Earth. Hunters and Druids facing continent crossings usually have a stronger reason to wait for their level-10 class chain.
For mixed-race friends, choose the zone supporting the least flexible class. A Warrior can move more readily than a Druid needing Bear Form or a Forsaken Paladin following new Tirisfal content. Share a meeting place and departure time. Being in the same faction does not make every quest shareable.
Pack Before Leaving and Set Your Hearth Deliberately
- Train affordable spell ranks before departure.
- Keep money for training and repairs.
- Carry food, water, and Hunter ammunition.
- Keep class letters and unfinished quest items.
- Finish crucial class rewards before the long trip.
- Discover useful flight points as you pass.
- Agree on an inn with your friends.
Set your hearth at the destination inn once you decide to stay. Keeping it at home can help one class-quest return, but then you need a way back to the group. Teleport: Moonglade especially rewards a destination hearth. Do not count on a brand-new character having paid flights, account perks, a mount, or a friendly Mage available.
All routes here avoid intentional death. When Hardcore becomes available, postpone dangerous crossings or use a trusted summon rather than copy a corpse-run shortcut. Swimming along hostile coasts and jumping down mountains can turn a small time saving into a lost character.
What You Give Up by Leaving
Once your group settles in, use zones by level to plan the next questing bracket. For a group considering dungeon runs, read the dungeon XP guide before comparing that option with questing.
Reputation: you earn the reputation attached to the quests you actually complete. Moving from Teldrassil to Elwynn favors Stormwind quests over early Darnassus quests; it does not change your racial identity. Classic reputation affected services and cross-race mount access, so skipping a home zone can matter later. Forever's exact rewards and mount rules need their own check.
Home-zone stories: leaving early skips quest chains, familiar contacts, and possible prerequisites. You can return for eligible quests, but rewards may be less useful and low-level quests may be harder to spot. Keep class quests separate from optional story completion.
Gear: traveling does not delete your starter equipment. You give up immediate access to the home zone's quest rewards and spend leveling time on travel. Destination rewards may offer a different weapon or armor mix; do not assume a visitor qualifies for race- or class-specific starter rewards. Buy or earn a usable weapon before a dangerous run.
FAQ
Can a Night Elf level in Elwynn?
Under Classic rules, yes: a Night Elf can quest with Alliance friends in Elwynn; individual quest restrictions still apply. For Forever, Hunters have reported trainer support there. Druids should plan Stormwind training and check their home Bear Form chain rather than look for a Human Druid trainer in Northshire.
How do you get from Teldrassil to Stormwind?
Follow the road to Darnassus, portal to Rut'theran Village, sail to Auberdine, then use the Auberdine to Stormwind Harbor connection described for Forever. Check the operating route and dock signs first. This guide has not timed or ridden those Forever boats; it does not promise a direct Rut'theran to Stormwind sailing.
Is there a Hunter trainer in Elwynn Forest?
Forever's database lists Josephine Carson as an Elwynn Hunter trainer, and Northshire's introductory Hunter letter names another local trainer. This differs from an old Vanilla-only recommendation to avoid Elwynn. The exact trainer services and visiting-race pet-quest eligibility still need checking in game.Reported: Josephine Carson, A Scribbled Letter.
What race starts in Elwynn Forest?
Humans use Northshire Valley in Elwynn Forest as their Classic starting area. Forever adds Human Hunters to the race's class choices. Visiting Alliance races can quest there; the default starting location and the ability to visit are separate questions. Skyborne have their own starting experience.
Can you level in another race's starting zone?
Under Classic rules, yes, in another same-faction starting zone, subject to each quest's restrictions. Check Forever's current quest and trainer support before moving. Use your destination's class checklist: compare its verdict, nearest trainer, and named class-quest trip. A trainer can teach your class while a nearby racial quest remains unavailable.
