What Blizzard has confirmed

Hardcore is a real, announced World of Warcraft: Forever ruleset, and almost everything about how it plays is still unpublished. Three first-party sources carry the whole factual base: the BlizzCon Day 2 Short, the Deep Dive panel recap, and the 2026-2027 roadmap image.

The Short states the feature outright. Its burned-in subtitles at 00:00:11.5-00:00:14.5 read:

Hardcore will be coming to ... to WoW: Forever

The Deep Dive panel recap then places Hardcore among the rulesets a player picks instead of a realm, and describes it as "Available after launch for players seeking the ultimate challenge, where every decision matters and death carries lasting consequences." That is the only sentence Blizzard has written about what Hardcore feels like, and it is a positioning statement, not a rules list.

When it arrives

The roadmap card is the timing evidence. Blizzard's image prints a black "World of Warcraft Forever Hardcore" card above the Winter band with the single word LAUNCH under it, and no date.

The raid unlock card next to it does carry a date, DEC 9, which the What's Next recap states in words as well. The Hardcore card does not. Compare the dated cards on the full roadmap breakdown, where the image reading is recorded with a locator, and the seasonal content plan.

Community write-ups have filled that blank in two incompatible ways: an r/MMORPG roadmap summary (1wenaqb, retrieved 12 September 2026) reads "Hardcore in Winter 2026", while an r/classicwow feature list (1wem8l3, retrieved 12 September 2026) reads "Hardcore servers early 2027". Both are unverified secondary reports, they contradict each other, and the roadmap image supports neither. Treat the window as "Winter, undated" until Blizzard prints a date.

How Hardcore sits next to the other rulesets

Hardcore is walled off from the rest of the game, with one deliberate door out. The recap's wording:

Hardcore will remain a fully enclosed ecosystem, but if a Hardcore character dies, that character can transfer to another ruleset, including PvP.

The panel adds that collections and Legacy progression are account-wide across the rulesets with Hardcore as the exception, and that "progress, collections, and rewards earned in Hardcore can become available in other rulesets, but progress from other rulesets will not flow back into Hardcore." That asymmetry is the design: nothing flows in, and what was earned in Hardcore can become available outside it.

The receiving side of that transfer is documented on the pages that own those systems: Legacy points and the perk trees, the PvP ruleset, and the realmless ruleset structure that all four options share. For the wider picture of what changed from original WoW, see the systems overview.

A dead Hardcore character transferring to PvP is Blizzard's published example. It does not say whether the player chooses the destination ruleset, whether the transfer is automatic, or whether it costs anything.

The Hardcore panel

BlizzCon ran a dedicated Hardcore panel, "Go Again!", published to the Warcraft channel at 01:31:31 UTC on 15 September 2026 and running 35:43, both read from the video page's own metadata. It is a retrospective on the Hardcore community rather than a Forever feature briefing.

The panel opened with a retrospective title card, captured from Twitch VOD 2873217338.

Captions for that VOD were unavailable when this page was written, so nothing spoken in it is quoted or summarised here. The title card above is the extent of what has been read from it.

What is still unknown

  • Whether death is permanent or a one-way transfer
  • Level range, and whether max level exists
  • Whether dungeons, raids, or trading are allowed
  • Addon and death-verification policy
  • Exact launch date inside the Winter window
  • Whether the beta client contains any Hardcore ruleset

Blizzard has published no Hardcore rules document, no mechanics list, and no date. Anything beyond the four sentences quoted above is community inference.
