The table is a route recommendation from reported beta data, not a Blizzard-published leveling plan. Material quantities are per craft, not a shopping total.

Before collecting ingredients, check that you have learned the recipe. The beta extract includes recipe items and their required skill for many dishes, but it does not consistently identify where those items come from. If a listed recipe is unavailable, use one you have learned whose skill threshold is still ahead. The Cooking overview covers Forever food and profession changes, while Profession leveling covers the wider skill system.

The yellow and gray values come from the Cooking rows in the beta-client extract. Green is calculated as the midpoint between them. Once a recipe is gray, switch to one with a higher threshold. A recipe can miss a skill point before it turns gray, so watch your skill value and keep extra reagents instead of treating the bands as exact craft counts.

The route crosses rank caps at 75, 150, and 225. Confirm that you can learn the next rank before collecting materials for the next band. The extract ties the 225 rank to an Expert Cookbook item that requires skill 125, but it does not say where any rank is learned.

The route levels Cooking skill. Blizzard says most crafted food adds a small experience bonus for your character, and RestedXP's WoW Forever leveling guide, on sale and still being built, handles the character leveling route.Source: RestedXP Forever page, checked Sep 28, 2026.

What do the Cooking ranks cap at?

The beta client describes basic recipes through skill 75, delicious recipes through 150, mouth watering recipes through 225, and amazing recipes through 300. Those descriptions show the caps, but the extract names a learning item for only one of them: the 225 rank comes from an Expert Cookbook that requires skill 125. It does not say where the book or the other ranks are obtained. Treat these as reported caps, not a trainer itinerary.

The Camping guide explains the shared campsite features that Cooking can support. This page stays focused on the skill route and does not assume that a camp recipe belongs in the 1-300 path.

Do Forever food bonuses affect character XP?

Yes. Blizzard's Deep Dive stream says most crafted food grants stat bonuses and a small amount of experience. The published details do not list the bonus for each recipe, so there is no sourced best XP dish to add to the skill route.

Cooking skill and character XP are separate decisions. The food bonus is not a Cooking skill-up, and the source does not say which specific dishes grant it.

Where do the recipe sources come from?

The beta client extract records recipe names, required skills, ingredients, and skill thresholds. It does not consistently say whether a recipe item comes from a trainer, vendor, quest, or drop. Use the listed recipe names to check what is available to your character, and do not assume the required skill is also the recipe's source location.

If a listed recipe is unavailable, use a recipe you have learned whose skill threshold is still ahead of you. The Wowhead Forever Cooking database is a public reference for Cooking entries, but this route does not infer acquisition locations from the client rows.

Swapping recipes inside each band

The table picks one dish per band, but the beta client lists many dishes with identical thresholds. Swap when a reagent is scarce or you have not learned a recipe. Every window below is reported client data from build 1.60.1.70009, and green is again the midpoint.

Skill 1 to 100

Seven dishes share the 45 yellow, 85 gray window: Charred Wolf Meat, Roasted Boar Meat, Herb Baked Egg, Crispy Bat Wing, Brilliant Smallfish, Slitherskin Mackerel and Gingerbread Cookie. The cookie needs Holiday Spices, so treat it as a seasonal option. Past 45, Beer Basted Boar Ribs (yellow 60, gray 100) and Roasted Kodo Meat (75, 115) cover the same stretch as Smoked Bear Meat when bears are scarce.

Skill 100 to 190

Blood Sausage and Thistle Tea both run yellow 100, gray 140. In Classic, Wowhead says Thistle Tea comes from a Rogue class quest; the beta extract gives its recipe item a required skill of 60 and no source.Source: Wowhead Classic Cooking guide, checked Sep 29, 2026. Crocolisk Steak and Dry Pork Ribs (120, 160) and Cooked Crab Claw (125, 165) fill the gap before Bristle Whisker Catfish runs out.

Between 140 and 190, Big Bear Steak, Gooey Spider Cake and Lean Venison share a 150 to 190 window. Heavy Crocolisk Stew and Crocolisk Gumbo run 160 to 200, Lean Wolf Steak 165 to 205 and Hot Lion Chops 175 to 215.

Skill 190 to 300

Eleven dishes share the 215 yellow, 255 gray window, mixing meat, fish and one tea: Roast Raptor, Mithril Headed Trout, Jungle Stew, Carrion Surprise, Mystery Stew and Goldthorn Tea among them. Heavy Kodo Stew, Dragonbreath Chili and Spider Sausage share 240 to 280. Spider Sausage lists 2 White Spider Meat and no recipe item.

Seven dishes share 265 to 305, including Spotted Yellowtail, Filet of Redgill and Tender Wolf Steak. Nightfin Soup and Poached Sunscale Salmon both run 290 to 330, and the salmon needs only 1 Raw Sunscale Salmon per craft (reported).

Finishing past 300

Baked Salmon, Lobster Stew, Mightfish Steak and Runn Tum Tuber Surprise turn yellow at 315 and gray at 355. Their recipe items require skill 275, so they are backup finishers if a tail of points remains after Nightfin Soup. Four newer dishes with a 275 requirement also reach past 300: Bat Hachee, Soaring Pamplona, Bear Bruscitti and Flank au Poivre (reported).

Dishes that waste reagents

Most Classic dishes run about 40 points from yellow to gray. Many new Forever dishes run far fewer, so a craft turns gray almost at once. Smoothies span 10 points: Venomous, Slimy, Mrrggl Smrrthle, Calcified, Spicy and Wicked. Plated Armorfish, Spinefin Halibut and Cookie's Feast span 10, 10 and 5. Sweetpaw Jam spans 5. Cook them for the buff, not for skill.

The client also holds Season of Discovery rows, such as Filet o' Flank and Grand Lobster Banquet. Our client extract files them under a Season of Discovery category and leaves them out of Forever's list, so skip them when planning.

Watch the recipe requirement against the gray value. Swiftstrike Steak, Raging Raptor Ribs and Clam Linguine list recipe items that require skill 275, while they turn gray at 205, 215 and 240. If those requirements stand, they cannot award skill by the time you can learn them. The extract does not explain the gap (reported).

Faster ways to reach 300

Legacy perks that touch Cooking

Blizzard confirms two Professions perks that speed skill-ups. Working Overtime "increases your chance to gain a skill point in all tradeskills," and Dedicated Study is a daily cooldown for gaining tradeskills faster.Source: Get to Know the World of Warcraft: Forever Legacy System, checked Sep 29, 2026. Blizzard gives no percentage and does not say Dedicated Study covers Cooking. The Legacy guide explains how to spend points.

Fansites disagree about whether Cooking itself earns points. One says 150, 225 and 300 in any profession give a Legacy Point; another says the same for Cooking. Blizzard's article awards tradeskill points for "each non-gathering primary profession" and never names Cooking, so this stays unconfirmed.

Campfire filler and gathered fish

The Journeyman Campfire turns yellow at 90 and gray at 140 for 1 Star Wood, and the Expert Campfire runs 200 to 225 for 1 Thick Logs. Their Blueprints require skill 90 and 200, and the client does not say where they come from, so they are a bonus, not a plan (reported).

Fish feed many of the dishes above, and Fishing supplies most of the routes that skip meat. Wowhead's Forever Fishing guide also says most cooked foods grant 5% extra experience from kills, more specific than Blizzard's "small." The beta client's shared food tooltip sets the same 5% (reported).Source: Wowhead Forever Fishing overview, checked Sep 29, 2026. Neither route vendor lists a Forever Cooking path; for the character route, see Zygor Guides or the Zygor versus RestedXP comparison.

Rank gates and what fansites report

Classic Era baseline: Apprentice needs character level 5, Journeyman level 10 and skill 50, and Artisan level 35 plus a quest. Forever has no Blizzard-published gates yet. Wowhead's Forever Cooking page gave no rank text when checked, so the levels below are secondary reports.

One fansite lists Expert at level 20 with skill 125, and Artisan at level 35 with skill 225 through the Clamlette Surprise chain. A second says the four level gates, 5, 10, 20 and 35, carry over from Classic. Two of these guides say the beta's level cap stops anyone from testing skill 225 to 300. Treat thresholds above 225 as data read from the client, not proven in play (unconfirmed).

Route length depends on the recipes you pick. One fansite counts about 484 crafts over 13 steps, and another about 355 over six recipes. The two use different recipes and thresholds, so neither number is a Forever fact. Use the per-craft ingredients on this page and count from your own skill.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Cooking skill cap in the beta data?

The client describes recipe ranks through a maximum skill of 300. Its rank text gives caps at 75, 150, 225, and 300.

Does this route guarantee a fixed number of crafts?

No. The table gives skill bands and per-craft ingredients, not a guaranteed shopping list. Continue crafting while the recipe can still award skill and adjust for missed points.

Which food gives the most experience?

The cited Blizzard detail says most crafted food adds a small experience bonus, but does not compare dishes or give per-recipe values. This page cannot name a best XP food from the available evidence.
