WoW Forever Engineering guide

Missing from Blizzard's profession list, present in a Blizzard racial and in beta data. Here is every signal, labeled.

Checked 5 facts, 2 from Blizzard

Engineering is the odd case. Blizzard's Deep Dive roster leaves it out, yet a Blizzard racial and several beta observations point to it. This page lists each signal with its certainty, then covers the Classic baseline and what to plan for.

Quick answer

Blizzard's profession list omits Engineering, yet its Gnome racial reads 'More reliable engineering devices' and beta data shows three Engineering camp objects. Treat it as in beta, not announced.

The evidence, signal by signal

The Deep Dive recap names Blacksmiths, Tailors, Herbalists, Alchemists, Leatherworkers, and Cooks in its camping section. The Legacy article adds mining, herbing, skinning, cooking, and fishing through its perk descriptions. Neither claims to be a complete list, and neither mentions Engineering. Several later sources point to Engineering existing anyway:

SignalEvidenceWhat it says
Blizzard: Create the Hero, Sept 22Confirmed textGnome racial "Engineering Specialization (Passive): More reliable engineering devices."
Wowhead Camping overview, Sept 22ReportedEngineering tab with three camp objects, skills, and reagents
Wowhead Mining guide, Sept 25ReportedMining materials "used in various Blacksmithing, Engineering, Enchanting, and Tailoring recipes"
Same Mining guideReportedGoblin Mining Helmet listed as a +5 Mining boost
Blizzard: Legacy System, Sept 2318 Tradeskill points from 150, 225, and 300 in each non-gathering primaryInference, see below

The Legacy math. Blizzard's Legacy article awards three points per non-gathering primary profession, 18 in total. That implies six such professions. The Deep Dive names four (Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Alchemy, Leatherworking), and Wowhead's Camping overview lists Cooking as secondary. Engineering and Enchanting, both in Wowhead's primary list, would bring the count to six.

The racial. A racial about "engineering devices" only makes sense if engineering devices exist. It does not prove players can train the profession, but it is Blizzard's own text, published after the Deep Dive.

Wowhead's hub. On September 27, Wowhead's Forever profession hub listed guides for Mining, Herbalism, First Aid, Camping, and the Azeroth Commerce Authority, but no Engineering guide.

Engineering camp objects in beta

Blizzard says every profession has three campsite objects and that each provides "its own buff or utility." Engineering's reported objects are utilities rather than stat buffs:

ObjectSkillEffect in betaBeta reagentsStatus
Reagent Bot20Nearby players can buy reagentsHandful of Copper Bolts, Copper TubeReported
Repair Bot140Buy reagents and repair gear2 Whirring Bronze Gizmo, Bronze Tube, Heavy LeatherReported
Anarchist's Workbench300Enables recipes that require itEssence of Anarchy, 2 Thorium WidgetReported

Blizzard lists repairs and vendors among campsite benefits in general, so these bots fit the confirmed design. Blizzard says the first object comes at skill 20 and advanced ones from dungeon-boss Blueprints; Wowhead does not give Blueprint sources for Engineering. Essence of Anarchy and recipes that need the Workbench are unexplained. The Camping guide covers campfire capacity.

Reagent Bot versus Reagent Economy

The Reagent Bot's job overlaps with a Legacy perk. Blizzard's Deep Dive recap says the Resourcefulness perk Reagent Economy "can remove reagent requirements from class abilities" (planned). Wowhead's Camping overview adds that, in beta, the same perk makes Tier 1 camping features cost no reagents (reported).

That leaves two ways to cover class reagents in the field. A player who spends Legacy Points on Reagent Economy needs the bot less, but still gets free Tier 1 camp crafts. A group without that perk gains more from an engineer's Reagent Bot, and the Repair Bot at 140 adds repairs on top.

Players have 16 Legacy Points to spend per character at launch, so an engineer at camp can free points for other perks. What the bots actually sell is not published.

The Gnome racial change

In Classic Era, the Gnome racial Engineering Specialization gave +15 Engineering skill (Wowhead Classic Engineering guide). Forever's version, per Blizzard, makes engineering devices "more reliable" instead. The same Classic guide notes that many Engineering items "are prone to malfunctioning and backfiring," so a reliability racial targets Engineering's main drawback.

Blizzard's September 24 beta notes changed another Gnome racial, Eureka, but not this one. See the Gnome guide and racials overview.

The Classic Era baseline

Forever builds on Classic Era. Nothing below is confirmed for Forever; it is the reference until Blizzard publishes an Engineering article.

What engineers make. Explosives, scopes, ranged weapons, armor, trinkets, and the only crafted companion pets. Wowhead's Classic guide notes many items require Engineering skill to use, which is why the profession suits PvP and raiding.

Materials. Wowhead's Classic 1-300 shopping list starts with stone for blasting powder and copper for bolts, then leans on bronze, about 170 Mithril Bars, and about 135 Thorium Bars. Mining is the usual partner.

Tools. Arclight Spanner at 50, Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor at 175, and a Blacksmith Hammer for some schematics.

Ranks. Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan training needs character levels 10, 20, and 35.

Specializations. At 200 skill and character level 30, Classic engineers can choose Gnomish or Goblin Engineering.

Gnomish leans toward gadgets such as the Gnomish Battle Chicken; Goblin leans toward explosives such as the Goblin Sapper Charge. The two lead to different teleporters, Gadgetzan for Gnomish and Everlook for Goblin (warcraft.wiki.gg Engineering). In Classic, the Goblin Mining Helmet is a Goblin Engineering trainer schematic (Wowhead Classic guide), so its appearance in Wowhead's Forever Mining table hints that Goblin schematics exist in beta data. That is a reported hint, not a confirmed specialization.

Blizzard has not said whether Forever keeps Gnomish and Goblin specializations.

What to plan for at launch

  • Keep Mining: it supplies bars either way
  • Save stone: blasting powder uses every stone tier
  • Check trainers: look for an Engineering trainer on day one
  • Gnome players: the racial only matters if you engineer
  • Crafting backup: Blacksmithing uses the same bars

If Engineering is trainable at launch, it counts toward the Tradeskill Legacy challenges like any other crafting profession, assuming the six-profession reading above is right. If it is not, a miner loses nothing by holding the bars.

What would settle it

  • A Blizzard professions article naming Engineering
  • Beta development notes mentioning Engineering changes
  • A Wowhead Forever Engineering guide
  • Trainer screenshots from the beta

The roadmap lists "Professions & Legacy Updates" for Summer 2027 (@Warcraft roadmap post, planned). That is a scheduled window, not an Engineering announcement. The professions hub and Mining guide track the rest of the roster.
