WoW Forever Legacy System Guide
Alts in Classic started from nothing except whatever your main mailed over. Legacy changes that: 65 challenges feed account-wide points, and each character can spend up to 16 of them at launch across three perk trees.

What Blizzard Has Confirmed
Blizzard introduced the Legacy System in its Deep Dive recap, and its September 23 article lists the challenges and perks.
Technical Notes
- RampageWoW's September 27, 2026 video is a simple walkthrough of the Legacy System.
- Origin and purpose: Legacy grew out of Hardcore leveling.
- Getting access: your first Legacy Point, usually at level 25.
- Earning points: 65 challenges across six categories.
- Three perk trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness.
- Account sharing: points pool across your alts.
- Launch spending cap: each character can spend 16 points.
- Legacy rewards: points also unlock four launch cosmetics.
- Mount acquisition: the gold cost moves to riding training.
- Ruleset boundary: Legacy covers Normal, PvP and RP. Planned.
Legacy rewards replaying the journey without permadeath and keeps the open world active. It opens when you earn your first Legacy Point. Reaching 150 skill in a non-gathering primary tradeskill or exploring the full map also opens it. Open it from the shield menu or press Y.
Each of the 65 challenges gives one account-wide point to non-Hardcore characters, and the table below lists every category. Points pool across the alts on your account. Each character spends them in three trees of seven perks each, allocating them independently to fit its role and specialization. One character can earn 29 points, and Blizzard says the 16-point launch cap keeps newcomers from falling behind.
The four launch cosmetics are the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle, Spectral Bear Cub, Spectral Bear Tabard and Reins of the Spectral Bear. New rewards are Planned for each content update. For mounts, learning the riding skill grants the mount.
At launch, Hardcore excludes challenges earned outside it, while Hardcore-earned challenges count elsewhere. Hardcore adds 12 challenges when it launches, and collections on deceased characters carry forward if they transfer out. Planned.

| Resourcefulness | The Quick and the Dead | Faster corpse runs; free group buffs after a resurrect |
| Resourcefulness | Reinforce | Less durability damage from dying |

| Resourcefulness | Permanence | Longer party, raid and camping buffs |
| Resourcefulness | Diplomat | More reputation |

The Talented row quotes Blizzard word for word. It is the only perk that touches class talents, and the talent guide covers the talent trees themselves. Well Rested feeds into the published leveling checkpoints, Field Guide works with the outdoor campsite system, and Bountiful Harvest and Master Chef apply to the eight named tradeskills. The two trade factions are the Azeroth Commerce Authority and Durotar Supply and Logistics.

- Open the 65-challenge finder; filter by category.
- Check level-25 class and non-gathering tradeskill-150 objectives first.
- Compare dungeon bands in the Spelunker lists.
- Levels 45 and 60 wait beyond this beta cap.
- Plan point allocation in the Legacy planner.
Reaching 16 Points on One Character
Blizzard says the 16-point cap "can be reached on a single character, so it is not required to create alts."
Blizzard's own breakdown for one character is 3 points from leveling, up to 6 from tradeskills, 12 from PvP, 2 from Adventure and 6 from Dungeons and Raids, 29 in all.Blizzard: Get to Know the World of Warcraft: Forever Legacy System, checked Sep 28, 2026.
A PvE Route to the Cap
Leveling one character to 60 gives 3 points. Taking two crafting professions to 300 adds 6, for 9. Clearing the final boss of every dungeon in all three level bands adds 3, for 12. The last 4 have to come from raids, Adventure, or PvP. That is our arithmetic on Blizzard's list, not a Blizzard plan.
Craft, Do Not Only Gather
Gathering skills earn no Legacy Points. The tradeskill challenges count only non-gathering primary professions, so a Herbalism and Mining pair earns nothing here, while Alchemy or Leatherworking pays out at 150, 225, and 300. Reaching 150 in one of them also opens the Legacy System before your first character hits 25. Gatherers are not left out entirely: the Bountiful Harvest perk helps you find extra Scarce resources. The professions guide compares the crafting options.
Where Alts Come In
Each class you take to 25, 45, and 60 adds 3 points, and all nine classes add up to the 27-point Classes category. Points pool across the account, so an alt's progress counts for your main too, though each character can still spend only 16 at launch. For faster alt leveling, RestedXP is building Forever routes and Zygor Guides has announced Forever guides for November;Source: Zygor's World of Warcraft: Forever guides launching this November, checked Sep 28, 2026. the Zygor vs RestedXP comparison covers the differences.
Matching Perks to a Character
Blizzard has not published perk ranks, costs, or a recommended order. These pairings come from what each perk does, not from a Blizzard build.
- Leveling: Well Rested, Talented, Thrill of Adventure.
- Professions: Working Overtime, Dedicated Study, Bountiful Harvest.
- Group play: The Quick and the Dead, Permanence.
- PvP: For Great Honor, Reinforce.
Well Rested raises the rested XP cap and makes rested XP build faster. Talented unlocks talent points up to 5 levels early. The Quick and the Dead speeds up corpse runs and makes group buffs free after a resurrect, which helps with wipe recovery. Reinforce cuts durability damage from dying.Source: Get to Know the World of Warcraft: Forever Legacy System, checked Sep 28, 2026.
The Legacy Rewards
The Replica Ironforge Air Rifle is a toy for shootouts with other players, and Blizzard says the guns "Stun other players and even keep score."
The Spectral Bear Cub pet is inspired by the Dwarven Hunter and his companion in the Forever cinematic. The tabard and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount round out the launch set, and all of them are exclusive to the Legacy System.Blizzard: Get to Know the World of Warcraft: Forever Legacy System, checked Sep 28, 2026.
Blizzard plans more cosmetics and toys as new Legacy Points arrive with each content release. Planned.
Legacy System in the Beta
Blizzard's beta known-issues thread, updated September 24, says you can open the Legacy System with Y before level 25, and "Doing so results in LUA errors on tab 1 and 3."Blizzard: WoW Forever Beta Known Issues, September 24, checked Sep 28, 2026.
So the panel is in the beta client, but do not treat its values as final.
On October 1, Kaivax said Blizzard is "planning to grant all testers 16 Legacy points"
in a future week of the beta, so testers can try the system without leveling several classes first. Blizzard expects "to keep that grant in place until the end of the Beta."Blizzard: Blizzard forums: Legacy Points for Beta Testing, checked Oct 1, 2026.
The grant shipped in the October 8 beta development notes: all beta players were granted completion of the Legacy Challenge, which awards 16 Legacy Points.

The same notes set a beta-only re-spec price. The lowest-cost talent point re-spec for Legacy Points costs 1 silver, and the cost falls by one re-spec per hour. Developers say this works like class talent re-spec costs and applies only during the beta.Blizzard: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, October 8 update, checked Oct 11, 2026.
How Legacy Sits Next to Hardcore
Hardcore is not in the game at launch. When it arrives, challenges earned on other rulesets will not show up in Hardcore, but a challenge earned in Hardcore counts on every other ruleset.Source: Get to Know the World of Warcraft: Forever Legacy System, checked Sep 28, 2026. The Hardcore ruleset guide covers the rest of its rules.
Blizzard notes that PvP challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore, so Hardcore launches with 12 challenges of its own. That matches the 12 PvP points Hardcore players would otherwise miss. More Hardcore-specific challenges and perks are planned later.

Legacy FAQ
Does Legacy give player power in raids?
Only indirectly. Permanence lengthens party and raid buffs, and Reagent Economy removes purchasable reagents from class abilities. Other perks focus on leveling, gathering and travel; rewards are toys and cosmetics.
Does Legacy change talents?
One perk does. Talented lets a character unlock talent points up to 5 levels earlier than normal.
Do I need alts to use Legacy?
No. One character can earn up to 29 points, more than the 16 it can spend at launch.
Can I use non-Hardcore perks on a Hardcore character?
No. Hardcore is isolated from Legacy progress earned outside it.
Are mounts cheaper to buy?
Yes. The mount cost moves into riding skill training, which grants the mount directly.
Will beta testers get Legacy points?
Yes. All beta players were granted the Legacy Challenge on October 8, which awards 16 Legacy Points. Whether beta points carry to launch is unannounced.

: Progression Analysis: Horizontal Depth vs. Power Creep
. Khalma on horizontal progression and power creep. Player analysis, not Blizzard design.
In community analysis, Khalma reads the permanent level cap and horizontal progression model as needing balance patches, set bonuses, and powerful trinket effects to keep class play fresh between raids, instead of endlessly increasing item stats. He also thinks power creep will eventually be hard to prevent over a multi-tier lifecycle. This is player analysis of long-term progression, not confirmed Blizzard design.
