WoW Forever Blacksmithing guide
Camp objects, Legacy points, the Classic baseline, and what is still unpublished for smiths.
Blacksmithing's Forever changes start at the campfire. Blizzard names the Sharpening Wheel, beta data shows a portable Anvil and Master Forge behind it, and the Legacy system pays points for skill milestones. Recipes and specializations are still unpublished, so the Classic baseline is labeled as such.
Quick answer
Blacksmithing is a confirmed profession. Its skill-20 camp object is the Sharpening Wheel; beta data adds a field Anvil at 140 and a Master Forge at 300, and every 150, 225, and 300 skill milestone earns a Legacy Point.

The Sharpening Wheel and its upgrades
Blizzard's Deep Dive recap says every profession has three campsite objects learned at different skill levels. The first unlocks at skill 20 from profession trainers or camping-introduction NPCs, and more advanced objects come from Blueprint recipes that drop from specific dungeon bosses. Blizzard names the Sharpening Wheel as Blacksmithing's object and says it increases Attack Power.
Campsite buffs are variants of class buffs and do not stack with them.
Wowhead's beta data names all three objects:
| Object | Skill | Effect in beta | Beta reagents | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sharpening Wheel | 20 | Strength buff, exclusive with Strength of Earth Totem | Rough Stone, Copper Bar | Confirmed name, reported values |
| Anvil | 140 | Usable anvil, plus Wheel buff | 5 Bronze Bar, 2 Coarse Grinding Stone, 2 Medium Leather | Reported |
| Master Forge | 300 | Enables recipes requiring a Forge, plus Wheel buff | Golem Heart, 5 Thorium Bar, 2 Rugged Leather | Reported |
Source conflict: Blizzard's recap says the Sharpening Wheel increases Attack Power. The beta tooltip Wowhead captured says Strength and pairs it with Strength of Earth Totem. Both are shown here until Blizzard or a later build settles it. The Lodestone on the Mining page is the beta object that grants melee Attack Power.

Wowhead also reports that each craft makes two objects, consumed on use, and that objects can be traded but need profession skill to place. The Anvil and Master Forge can be placed over a Sharpening Wheel to replace it. The Camping guide covers campfire capacity and the one-hour cooldown all objects share.
Why the Anvil matters
In Classic Era, Blacksmithing recipes generally need a Blacksmith Hammer and a nearby anvil, which usually means a city or town (Wowhead Classic Blacksmithing guide). A placeable Anvil at skill 140 would let a smith craft at any campfire. The Master Forge goes further and, per its beta tooltip, enables recipes that require a Forge.
Which Forever recipes need it is not published.
Smith and miner at the same campfire
A Basic Campfire holds three objects, one per player, per Blizzard. In the beta tooltips Wowhead captured, the Sharpening Wheel is exclusive with Strength of Earth Totem, while the Mining Lodestone is exclusive with Blessing of Might (reported). If those tooltips hold, the two are separate buffs, so a melee group could run both at one camp.
The Master Forge and the Molten Foundry are also separate crafting stations in beta. None of this is confirmed by Blizzard, and a Shaman or Paladin in the group changes which object is worth placing.
Legacy Points and perks
Blacksmithing counts as a non-gathering primary profession, which matters for the Legacy system:
- Challenges: reach 150, 225, and 300 skill (planned)
- Access: 150 skill unlocks Legacy early (planned)
- Working Overtime: better skill-up chance (planned)
- Dedicated Study: daily cooldown, Elemental Essences at 300 (planned)
Blizzard says one character can earn up to 6 Legacy Points from tradeskills, so two crafting professions pay the most. Most players unlock the Legacy system at level 25; reaching 150 in a crafting profession unlocks it too. Perk ranks and costs are unpublished.
The Classic Era baseline
Forever builds on Classic Era. Until Blizzard publishes Forever's recipe book, the Classic structure is the best reference, and none of it is confirmed for Forever.
Ranks. Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan cap at 75, 150, 225, and 300. Wowhead's Classic guide places the Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan character-level gates at 10, 20, and 35.
Leveling. Classic smiths start with sharpening and grinding stones from Rough, Coarse, and Heavy Stone, then move to copper, bronze, iron, steel, mithril, and thorium gear. Wowhead's Classic shopping list for 1-300 includes about 680 Thorium Bars, 240 Mithril Bars, 230 Iron Bars, and 190 Steel Bars.

Specializations. At skill 200 and character level 40, Classic smiths choose Armorsmith or Weaponsmith. Weaponsmiths can then become a Master Axesmith, Hammersmith, or Swordsmith. Each path starts with its own quest, and the Armorsmith line runs through Galvan the Ancient in Stranglethorn Vale (Warcraft Tavern specialization guide, Wowhead Classic guide).
Forever status. Blizzard has not said whether Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, or the master weapon specializations return.
What Forever changes around the anvil
- 600+ new recipes: across all professions, none assigned yet (confirmed)
- Blueprint drops: advanced objects from dungeon bosses (confirmed)
- Store page: "Revamps to honor and professions" (confirmed)
- Summer 2027: "Professions & Legacy Updates" on the roadmap (planned)
The 600-recipe figure covers all professions and level ranges, so no Blacksmithing count can be derived from it. The professions hub lists every source.
Metal supply in Forever
Wowhead's beta Mining guide says mined and smelted materials feed Blacksmithing, Engineering, Enchanting, and Tailoring (reported). It also reports three new endgame bars:
- Heavy Thorium Bar: smelted at Mining 300
- Azerothium Bar: smelted at Mining 275
- Legionite Bar: Alchemist transmute from Heavy Thorium
Wowhead does not say which recipes use them. Endgame smithing has always leaned on thorium, so expect a Blacksmith to want these, but no source confirms it.
A launch plan for smiths
- Train early: learn Blacksmithing and Mining together
- Skill 20: learn the Sharpening Wheel from your trainer
- Save stone: grinding stones feed the beta Anvil recipe
- Bank bronze: five Bronze Bars per Anvil in beta
- Target dungeons: Blueprints drop from specific bosses
- Log milestones: 150, 225, and 300 each pay Legacy Points
Mining is the natural partner. Wowhead's Forever Mining guide lists Blacksmithing as a common pairing because smiths use the bars a miner smelts (reported). In Classic, Warriors and Paladins take Blacksmithing most often, for plate gear and sharpening stones.
If you plan an alt army, Blacksmithing on one character and a gatherer on another lets each earn its own Legacy challenges. Points are shared across the account, but each character spends up to 16 of them.
