September 24 Beta Build Changes
Night Elf Priests have a racial spell, Starshards, named in Blizzard's September 24 beta development notes. The Twilight Focus talent now gives it spell pushback resistance. Confirmed for the beta build. Starshards isn't in Blizzard's September 22 racial list, and its full effect is unpublished. The Priest guide has the other Priest changes.
What Each Night Elf Racial Does
Every Night Elf gets two active racials, Elune's Light and Shadowmeld, and two passives, Quickness and Wisp Spirit. Blizzard's September 22 Create the Hero article prints a tooltip for each. Confirmed.

Elune's Light and Shadowmeld
Elune's Light, a 15-second boost to critical chance, reads "Increases critical chance by 10% for 15 seconds."Blizzard: Create the Hero You Want to Be in World of Warcraft: Forever, checked Sep 25, 2026.
It is new to the race: Blizzard's Night Elf race page lists no comparable Classic ability. Blizzard's text gives no cooldown. The beta client's spell data lists a 3-minute cooldown and applies the bonus to "all spells and attacks," so casters and melee both use it. Reported from build 1.60.1.70009.
Shadowmeld's published text is shorter: "Gain Stealth while immobile."Blizzard: Create the Hero You Want to Be in World of Warcraft: Forever, checked Sep 25, 2026.
The client tooltip adds a Forever rule. Shadowmeld still ends when you move, but "Using this ability in combat discourages enemies from attacking you, but increases the cooldown to 2 min." Out of combat the cooldown is 10 seconds. Reported, and not in Blizzard's notes.
Quickness and Wisp Spirit
Quickness is always on and gives Dodge and run speed: "1% increased Dodge chance and 2% increased run speed."Blizzard: Create the Hero You Want to Be in World of Warcraft: Forever, checked Sep 25, 2026.
The client tooltip also keeps a stealth perk: Night Elf Rogues and Druids are harder to detect in Stealth "as if they were 1 level higher." Reported.
Wisp Spirit gives "75% increased run speed while dead,"
which shortens every corpse run back from a graveyard.Blizzard: Create the Hero You Want to Be in World of Warcraft: Forever, checked Sep 25, 2026.
Using the Two Actives
Elune's Light is a burst button: line it up with the opening of a pull or a class cooldown, since a 3-minute timer means roughly one use per long fight. Shadowmeld's in-combat use gives every Night Elf class an emergency button, but the tooltip only says it "discourages" attacks. Test it on a live mob before you trust it to save a bad pull.
Tooltip Changes From Classic Era
In the beta client, Quickness carries the Rogue and Druid stealth bonus and the run speed, and Shadowmeld gains the in-combat clause. In Classic Era, that stealth bonus sat on Shadowmeld's tooltip and Quickness only raised Dodge. Comparing the beta client with the Classic Era client (1.15.9) shows where the old perks went. Reported from both clients.
Why Nature Resistance Is Gone
Forever keeps Shadowmeld, Quickness, and Wisp Spirit and swaps Nature Resistance for Elune's Light. Blizzard's Deep Dive recap says every race gets two active and two passive racials. Classic Night Elves had four as well, with Nature Resistance as a passive. Blizzard hasn't explained that swap, but the same recap says racials were retuned for "a similar amount of offensive power,"
and a burst cooldown fits that goal better than a resistance stat.Blizzard: World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive Panel Recap, checked Sep 14, 2026.
Choosing a Class as a Night Elf
All five Night Elf classes carry over unchanged. None of Blizzard's six new race and class pairings touches Night Elf. The beta client agrees: its race and class table adds rows only for the six announced pairings and the two Skyborne races. Reported from build 1.60.1.70009.
Melee: Warrior and Rogue
Quickness' dodge chance helps any class that takes hits in melee. A Rogue already has Stealth, so Shadowmeld matters less there than on a class with no stealth of its own. The Warrior guide and Rogue guide cover both melee options.
Hunter, Priest, and Druid
Night Elf Priests get , the racial spell from the September 24 notes above, and Druids share the Quickness stealth perk with Rogues. The Hunter guide covers Forever's ranged weapon class. The Druid guide covers Night Elf's healer, tank, and DPS option. That perk means a Night Elf Cat Form Druid is slightly harder to spot while prowling than a Tauren or Skyborne one. That comparison is Reported from the client tooltip, not measured.
Skyborne overlaps Night Elf on four classes: Druid, Hunter, Rogue, and Warrior. Blizzard describes Skyborne Druid forms as "created specifically for the race,"
without establishing Night Elf Druid appearance.Blizzard: Meet the New Skyborne, checked Sep 28, 2026.
Where Night Elves Level in Forever
Teldrassil is live in the beta. Blizzard's September 24 notes cut the objective count for "Bounty: Gnarlpine Furbolg"
to 15 (was 20).Blizzard: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes – Updated September 24, checked Sep 25, 2026. Blizzard hasn't published a Night Elf starting route. Classic Era players moved from Teldrassil to Darkshore, where Blizzard's What's Next recap says Forever adds "mist over the waters."Blizzard: World of Warcraft: Forever What's Next Panel Recap, checked Sep 13, 2026.
Zygor Guides and RestedXP sell step-by-step leveling addons; only RestedXP's changelog names these two zones.
Beta change, October 1 build: Darnassus now has a barbershop, every barbershop has barbers, and city guards give directions to them. Blizzard resolved an issue with the Tharnariun's Hope item in the Darkshore quest "Plagued Lands,"
and increased the respawn rate of many creatures and objects in Ashenvale. These are confirmed for the beta; our October 1 notes summary lists the rest.Blizzard: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, October 1, checked Oct 1, 2026.

Mount Hyjal and the Immortality Thread
Mount Hyjal comes much later. Blizzard calls it a new endgame leveling zone reached through Darkwhisper Gorge, with no level range yet. The Mount Hyjal zone guide tracks what is confirmed. Planned.

The What's Next panel ties the zone to Night Elf lore. The presenter recalls that Malfurion Stormrage gave up the power sustaining night elf immortality to defeat Archimonde, and says some night elves "disagreed with his decision."Blizzard: What's Next Panel, BlizzCon 2026, checked Sep 28, 2026.
The presenter adds reports that "someone or something"
is now draining power from the land around the summit.Blizzard: What's Next Panel, BlizzCon 2026, checked Sep 28, 2026. Blizzard hasn't said whether that thread reaches Night Elf quests outside the raid.
Starshards and Twilight Focus
Since the September 24 fix, benefits from like other Priest casts. Twilight Focus is a three-point Holy talent. The beta client's Priest data lists it at a 23% chance to avoid interruption from damage at one point and 70% at three. Reported from client data. Our talent calculator shows the full Holy tree.
The talent is not Night Elf specific; only the Starshards interaction is. The Priest class guide's talent notes say Twilight Focus is the renamed Healing Focus.
What Starshards Does in the Client
The client's spell data describes Starshards as Arcane damage over 6 seconds on the enemy target, with a 30-second cooldown. The first rank sits at level 10 and the next at level 18. Reported. Blizzard hasn't published Starshards' full effect. The client also has damage numbers for each rank, but Blizzard is still tuning Priest spells between builds, so this page doesn't quote them.
What Is Still Unknown
Official cooldowns, what Starshards does in full, and any new Night Elf story are still unknown.
- Official cooldowns for Elune's Light and Shadowmeld.

For the official cooldowns for Elune's Light and Shadowmeld, Blizzard's text gives none; the client lists 3 minutes and 2 minutes in combat. The two spring class and race combinations come from the deleted first roadmap image.
Original WoW Reference
In original WoW, Night Elves were Alliance only and had Nature Resistance as a racial; this is pre-Forever context. Blizzard's Classic guide describes Night Elves as ancient and mystical, bound to natural forces, self-sufficient and reclusive.
