Blizzard has announced controller support for WoW Forever in one sentence, and that sentence is still the whole of the first-party record. This page keeps the announcement wording intact, separates it from the show-floor reports that describe how the controller build behaved, and names what Blizzard has not published: button maps, remapping, accessibility options, and whether the beta client ships with it.

What Blizzard actually said

The What's Next panel recap, under the heading "Classes, Systems, and Player Choice", lists the feature among the player-choice options:

official gamepad support for players who prefer to play with a controller

That is the complete first-party statement, read on the live page on 17 September 2026. It is an announcement of support, not a specification. The same paragraph groups it with the other opt-in client choices, including opt-in transmog and the HD and SD character model options, which is the best available signal about how Blizzard frames it: a preference setting, not a platform change.

What show-floor reports add, and what they do not prove

The BlizzCon demo was playable with a controller, and press and community write-ups describe the same two details. Warcraft Tavern's 13 September report by Luxrah says the option "utilizes a radial menu to navigate to many elements of the UI" and that "the feature is currently in an alpha state according to the in-game description".

Treat all of that as reported, not confirmed. It describes one convention build that Blizzard has not documented, and the in-game label the reporters saw calls the feature alpha. A radial menu seen on a show floor is not a shipped control scheme.

Nothing published so far tells you which controllers work, how abilities bind to a pad, or whether bindings can be changed. If you are planning a controller setup, plan it as unknown.

The system requirements still say keyboard and mouse

Blizzard's published requirements table lists "Keyboard and mouse required" as the minimum input row and a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel as the recommendation on both Windows and Mac. No controller row exists in either column. The full requirements reference keeps those rows verbatim.

Those two facts sit together without contradiction: the requirements page defines the input hardware you must have, and the recap announces an additional way to play. Blizzard has published no controller hardware requirement, no supported-device list, and no statement that a pad can replace the keyboard and mouse. Do not read the announcement as permission to skip either one.

Whether the beta has it

Blizzard has not said. The beta reference page, which owns the access routes and testing dates, carries no controller statement, and the Blizzard Support article on the Forever beta client was read in full on 17 September 2026 at 12:52 UTC and says nothing about controllers and carries no known-issues list. Its only statement about the client is: "If you have Beta access, the Beta client will be available for installation in the Battle.net App once testing begins." Warcraft Tavern's report expects changes "once players get their hands on the Beta later this week", which is an expectation, not an announcement.

If you are installing the beta, the practical answer is to check the client's own settings once it is available and treat anything you find there as a test build, not a launch promise.

What is still unknown

  • Which controllers and drivers are supported.
  • Default bindings and whether remapping exists.
  • Whether the radial menu ships or was demo-only.
  • Accessibility options built on controller input.
  • Whether the beta client includes the feature.
  • Any console or handheld plans.

Two independent source sweeps on 14 September, recorded in this project's research notes as agent-sweep-2026-09-14-1840Z-independent and agent-sweep-2026-09-14-1904Z-independent, found the recap sentence unchanged and no implementation detail added since BlizzCon. That gap is the current state of the evidence, not an oversight in this page.

Where controller support fits with the rest of Forever

Gamepad support belongs to the same family of client-side choices as the optional transmog toggle and the visual presets. Each one is a player preference Blizzard announced at the same panel, and each one has more announcement than documentation behind it. If you are new to the version and working out what is settled, the start-here route map orders the decisions that actually have published answers.
