WoW Forever group finder, meeting stones, and summons

No queue, no teleport: what Blizzard has said about grouping, and what demo players saw.

Checked 7 facts, 1 from Blizzard

Blizzard's written sources explain who you can group with, not how a party gets assembled. The rest comes from demo reports, so this page keeps confirmed rules, reported observations, and unannounced mechanics apart.

Quick answer

No automated dungeon finder is announced. BlizzCon demo reports describe a Classic-style listing tool, meeting stones that do not summon, and Warlock summoning as the only summon.

The short answer

There is no evidence of a Retail-style queue that builds a party and ports it into the instance. Blizzard's own articles never describe one, and players who tried the BlizzCon demo reported the opposite: you find people, form the group yourself, and walk to the dungeon.

Two outlets published matching demo reports on September 14. Warcraft Tavern says Forever has the Looking for Group interface "that currently exists in WoW Classic," which organizes groups but does not form them automatically or teleport anyone.

Classic Quester says meeting stones "didn't summon players in the BlizzCon demo." Both are observations of a show-floor build, not a Blizzard rule, so they carry the (reported) label until Blizzard or the live client confirms them.

What Blizzard has confirmed about grouping

Blizzard has published the boundaries of a group, even without describing the tool that forms one.

RuleEvidenceWhat Blizzard says
RulesetConfirmedGroup, dungeon, and raid with players on the same ruleset
BattlegroundsConfirmedMay include other rulesets, except Hardcore
FactionConfirmedNo cross-faction play
DifficultyConfirmedOne difficulty for dungeons and raids
LanguageConfirmedAn account-wide preferred online language setting

The ruleset article sets the ruleset and battleground rules. The same article places "Preferred Online Language" under Options, System, Languages and Social, and calls it an account-wide setting with a 24-hour cooldown. That setting matches you with players who share the language, which shapes who you share the world with. The realmless guide covers how rulesets partition the population.

A realmless ruleset is a bigger pool of players than a single realm, which should make groups easier to find. Blizzard has not said that, and it does not turn the ruleset into a matchmaking queue.

Classic Era baseline: meeting stones, summons, and LFG

Forever's demo behavior makes more sense beside the Classic history it resembles. This section describes earlier versions of WoW, not Forever.

Patch 1.3.0 shipped on March 7, 2005, and patch 2.0.1 on December 5, 2006, which is when stones began to work "similar to a Warlock Summon spell." When Blizzard announced the Classic Era Group Finder, it called the tool "a true quality-of-life update." Players still whisper and invite; the tool only lists who is looking.

The reported Forever demo lines up with this baseline: a listing tool, no stone summons, Warlocks as the summon source. Treat the match as reported until the live client confirms it.

How to find a dungeon group at launch

These steps work whether the final tool is a listing board or nothing but trade and zone chat.

Know the bracket. Blizzard published level ranges for all nine new dungeons, and the dungeon guide lists them. Groups form fastest when every member sits inside the range, because nobody is waiting to catch up and nobody is overleveled for the quests.

Collect the quests before you look for a group. Dungeon quest XP is now the main reward (see dungeon XP). The September 24 beta notes say dungeon quests can no longer be shared for items, so each player needs to pick up their own before the run.

Group where you already are. Players questing in the zone around an entrance are already close to it. With no teleport, proximity saves more time than any other choice you make.

Plan for the walk. Without a summoning stone, the last player to arrive sets the start time. The no-flying travel guide covers the routes and the planned mount changes.

Value your Warlock. If the demo reports hold, a Warlock plus two helpers at the entrance can bring in a missing member, and that turns a long wait into a short one.

Keep a good group together. A party that works well can move up to the next bracket as a unit, which skips the search entirely.

Party changes also had a known issue in the September 24 beta. Blizzard's known-issues topic lists: "Creating or changing party composition may transfer players to a different world instance." That is a beta bug, not a launch rule, but it can split a group that forms in the open world during testing. The beta patch notes summary has the full list.

What players are asking for

The official forums carry a steady stream of dungeon-finder threads. One US forum thread splits between players who want a queue, players who want manual grouping, and a middle group expecting a listing tool like the Anniversary realms. No Blizzard staff member has answered in it. An EU beta feedback thread proposes a compromise between meeting and summoning stones.

These threads show demand, not design.

What is still open

  • Final name and behavior of the listing tool
  • Whether meeting stones do anything at launch
  • Summon rules for Hardcore characters
  • Raid group assembly rules
  • Any cross-ruleset dungeon grouping (currently ruled out)

Frequently asked questions

Does WoW Forever have a dungeon finder?

Not an automated one. Blizzard has announced no queue, and BlizzCon demo reports describe a Classic-style listing tool that helps you find players but does not form the group or teleport it.

Do meeting stones summon in WoW Forever?

Demo reports say no. Blizzard has not published a meeting-stone rule, so this stays reported until the live client confirms it.

Can I group with the other faction?

No. Developers said there will be no cross-faction play in the official Q&A.

Can I group with friends on a different ruleset?

Not for dungeons or raids. Blizzard says players group with others who chose the same ruleset; only battlegrounds mix non-Hardcore rulesets.
