Need to get back after a death? Beta players describe returning to the corpse as the expected route, while one recording shows a player-resurrection offer. The result and any fixed recovery penalty are not established here.

TL;DR

If you are already a ghost and the route is reachable, corpse return is the best-supported expectation. Read any live resurrection prompt before choosing; current Spirit Keeper costs and sickness timing are not verified.

This guide covers normal play. The available evidence includes one beta gameplay scene and firsthand player accounts, not a complete test of every death route. For Hardcore rules, see the separate Hardcore guide.

Choose by What You See

SituationEvidence-backed read
A player-resurrection offer appearsObserved: a ghost scene shows an offer with Accept and Decline; its message says the player can resurrect you in 40 seconds. The scene does not show a choice or result. (VOD, 1:14:15; build unverified.)
You are a ghost and can reach your corpseReported: beta players describe a spirit run back to the corpse as the expected route. One separate report describes long dungeon corpse runs from distant graveyards. (Jinho, Oct. 1; Zaroc, Oct. 7.)
Terrain blocks your corpse routeReported: one player says the wind path prevented their ghost from reaching the corpse; they spirit-resurrected at the previous platform, where the Spirit Keeper was located. This is one fallback report, not a universal rule. (Jinho, Oct. 1.)

The player offer and corpse return are distinct choices in the evidence. The September 27 video confirms that an offer can appear while the character is a ghost, but does not show whether accepting it avoids a corpse run or what happens after either button. Treat its wording and controls as specific to that scene, not a promise that every death produces the same prompt.

The corpse-run expectation comes from two firsthand beta reports by different players. Jinho recounts a death on the Zephras Rohashi Spires quest route: the Spirit Keeper was on the previous platform, and the wind would not carry the ghost across.

Zaroc separately describes dungeon deaths followed by long runs from graveyards far from the entrance. Together, these accounts support trying the corpse route when it is reachable and treating travel distance as a possible cost. They do not establish that every corpse is reachable or that every Spirit Keeper behaves alike.

Controls in the Retained Client

The retained 1.60.1.70205 UI source labels a release button “Release Spirit” that calls the release API; the main death dialog is in a family-specific file, so its use in Forever is inferred. The always-loaded corpse-recovery dialog asks “Resurrect now?”; Accept calls the corpse-retrieval API after a client-supplied delay. These are dated code definitions, not an observed recovery test.Source: Blizzard beta UI, build 1.60.1.70205; extracted October 8, 2026. StaticPopupGame TOC and GameDialogDefs, death and RECOVERCORPSE definitions; localized labels from the October 3 GlobalStrings extract.

Use the live prompt to distinguish releasing, accepting a player offer, and recovering your corpse. A recovery delay is not the same thing as Resurrection Sickness. No fixed delay is calculated here. The code has conditional self-resurrection choices, so every character need not see identical buttons.

A Practical Sequence

Editorial guidance, not a tested button walkthrough:

  • Read each option in the live prompt before clicking.
  • Compare a player offer with your group's current plan.
  • As a ghost, try a reachable corpse route.
  • If blocked, look for a Spirit Keeper.
  • After revival, check the debuffs shown by your client.

The sequence combines code-defined controls with reported corpse travel. The footage does not show a release click, corpse arrival, or completed revival; marker location and successful recovery remain unobserved.

Costs and Limits

Blizzard's known-issues topic still lists lower-level Resurrection Sickness duration as incorrect in the October 8 retrieval. The post gives no intended duration or level cutoff. Its statement is a beta issue report, not a corrected rule. This guide therefore gives no fixed sickness timer or durability percentage. Check the current prompt and debuff text rather than planning around a remembered number.

Not Established by These Sources

  • Current corpse-marker behavior or completed revival.
  • Whether the captured player offer succeeds.
  • Current Spirit Keeper penalties or durability changes.
  • A reliable Resurrection Sickness duration or level cutoff.
