What Players Say

Of 109 remarks from 22 streamers in the Oct 5-8 beta, the common advice for new players was to pick what feels fun over what is optimal. Opinions from live streams, not confirmed facts.

“Just be wary that some races have better racials, but if you care about looks more than racials, choose the looks”

Savix on Twitch , beta Watch the moment

“You don't need to min-max and play the best thing.”

Shobek on Twitch , beta Watch the moment

“This is like the best time to play ever. Like honestly, if you didn't play in 2004, this is actually the best time…”

Esfand on Twitch , beta Watch the moment

Step Notes

1. Choose Access

Only the Skyborne Epic Pack, the Warcraft Forever Collection or the physical Collector's Edition add guaranteed beta access. Blizzard's beta article says testing runs "through October 21, the last full day of testing"Blizzard: The World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Now Live, checked Sep 28, 2026.; the roadmap image says October 22. The beta access guide lists both dates. The physical Collector's Edition sold out, then returned in English on September 24.

4. Choose a Class, Then a Race

This site names no proven best class for beginners and publishes no tier list of its own; our class comparison page reports that Hunter led player up-votes in the October 5-8 tally, which does not measure leveling speed. In community analysis, Khalma argues the ability, talent and combat changes make Forever play like a different game from ClassicUnverified, community material only. Blizzard's Deep Dive recap confirms 10 to 15 second fights and unified hit and crit ratings.

7. Pick Professions

Blizzard hasn't published slot counts per character. Enchanting and Engineering recipes are in the beta even though Blizzard's list skips them; see the Enchanting guide. The professions and Camping reveal report has the announcement wording behind the revamp.

New Player FAQ

Is WoW Forever free for new players?

Blizzard says a WoW Subscription or Game Time gets you into Forever at launch. Paid upgrades add extras such as Skyborne, Zephras Isle, beta access, cosmetics, or included Game Time. The editions guide separates those layers.

What is the best WoW Forever class for a beginner?

No class is proven best for beginners. Hunter led player up-votes in the October 5-8 tally on the class comparison, but votes do not measure leveling speed. Choose a baseline role, then check which races can play it in the race and class combos tool.

Can I level in the WoW Forever beta?

Yes, up to the beta cap. It opened at 20, and Blizzard's September 30 forum post confirmed the October 1 beta build raises it to 30. That build also added Excavation Site: Wetlands and opened Razorfen Downs and Uldaman. The question index has more short answers.

Do I need a leveling addon?

No; they are optional route helpers. RestedXP's WoW Forever guide is on sale and still being built, and Zygor's Forever guides are planned for launch.Source: Zygor's Forever announcement, checked Sep 28, 2026. To weigh them, compare Zygor and RestedXP.

Every entry carries its evidence tier. Confirmed: a Blizzard page, post or video says it. Planned: Blizzard, in the future tense or as a dated plan. Reported: press or a datamine. Unverified: community only. Not announced: nothing on record. Where sources disagree, both stay in the text. How we verify

What Changes If You Played Classic

Returning From Classic: Do These in Order

  1. Pick a ruleset; switching means a new character.
  2. Choose first-launch settings.
  3. Trial two or three classes on separate characters.
  4. Level to the beta cap of 30.
  5. Read what changed below.

Blizzard's temporary beta talent-reset price is 1 silver if talents have not changed recently; use that reset to compare builds on one character, and use separate characters for other classes.Confirmed, a first-party sourceBlizzard: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, Classes, checked Oct 8, 2026.

Combat and Gear

Blizzard's Deep Dive recap says an ordinary mob should take roughly 10 to 15 seconds to kill solo, and dungeon pulls stay tactical, with crowd control used when a tank has too many enemies.Source: World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive Panel Recap, checked Sep 28, 2026. Melee, ranged and spell hit are now one stat, and so are the three critical strike chances.

Caster weapons now carry spell damage and healing, so casters get level-up weapons the way Warriors and Rogues always did. Items with weapon skill offer less of it each, and some new items reduce the chance your attacks are parried or dodged.

A Fixed World

Blizzard's What's Next recap promises "no flying mounts, no level scaling."Blizzard: World of Warcraft: Forever What's Next Panel Recap, checked Sep 28, 2026. A zone stays the level it was built for, so a familiar leveling order still applies.

New Races and Class Pairs

Blizzard's September 22 tables add six pairings: Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin, Human Hunter, Gnome Priest and Dwarf Shaman. The new Skyborne race starts on Zephras Isle. Horde Windshapers can be Shaman, and Alliance High Order Skyborne can be Mages. Every Forever upgrade from the Skyborne Heroic Pack up includes the race.

Professions, Camping and Legacy

The Deep Dive recap names eight professions and more than 600 new recipes. Wowhead's beta database also lists Enchanting and Engineering, which Blizzard's list leaves out. The professions guide has both lists.

Camping turns the Cooking Fire into a Basic Campfire. Blizzard says a campsite offers vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs, earned by sitting at the fire for a moment. Nearby players can add up to three crafted objects, the first learned at profession skill 20. The Camping guide covers the objects.

The Legacy system adds account-wide points. Most players earn the first when a character reaches level 25, and each character can spend up to 16 points at launch. Blizzard says one character can reach that cap, so alts are optional. The Legacy guide explains the trees.

Mounts

Forever takes the Burning Crusade approach to mount costs: the up-front cost moves into riding training, and you get a mount when you learn the skill.Source: World of Warcraft: Forever Deep Dive Panel Recap, checked Sep 28, 2026. Blizzard hasn't published the training prices.

Before You Create a Character

Your ruleset choice sticks to that character. Blizzard's ruleset article says players "cannot freely hop between rulesets" such as Normal, PvP, Roleplaying or the later Hardcore option; switching means rolling a new character.Blizzard: Choose Your Ruleset in World of Warcraft: Forever, checked Sep 28, 2026. On PvP, your first character also locks that ruleset to one faction.

Names and Friends

Characters use two-part names, like a first and last name, unique per region. Friends can only group, run dungeons and raid with you on the same ruleset, so agree on one first.

What Carries Over From Other WoW Versions

None of the Blizzard pages we checked publishes a character transfer, copy or carryover policy for Forever as of Sep 28, 2026. Blizzard's general transfer article lists only modern WoW, Classic Era and Classic Progression. Early Name Reservation, October 27 to November 3, only reserves names on the buying account. Plan to start fresh.

Getting Into the Beta

The Skyborne Epic Pack, the Warcraft Forever Collection and the physical Collector's Edition guarantee beta access. Signing up alone doesn't guarantee a slot, though Blizzard says invitations go out regularly during the test.Source: World of Warcraft Alpha or Beta Access, checked Sep 28, 2026. The beta runs through October 21, and Blizzard raised its level cap from 20 to 30 with the October 1 update. The beta guide covers both.

Your First Play Session

Check Your Machine

Check that your computer meets the system requirements before install day. Windows needs at least Windows 10 64-bit with the May 2019 Update, and Mac needs at least macOS 12. Both need 128 GB free on an SSD. Blizzard's GPU article also rules out cards older than NVIDIA Maxwell, AMD Graphics Core Next 1 or Intel Skylake.

Install and Log In

Forever installs through the Battle.net desktop app. For the beta, pick World of Warcraft: Forever Beta under In Development in the Game Version menu. Blizzard's October 1 known issues say the beta install is larger than intended and Blizzard is working to reduce it.Source: Blizzard forums: WoW Forever Beta Known Issues, new October 1, checked Oct 1, 2026. The game launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST, and a WoW Subscription or Game Time gets you launch access.

Settings to Choose on First Launch

The What's Next recap lists modern and Classic visual presets, HD or SD character models, and restored Classic animations for HD models. The Deep Dive recap adds that choosing Classic Mode on first launch turns transmog off automatically. You still collect appearances while it is off, and a transmogrifier in certain cities can switch it back on. The transmog guide covers the opt-out.

Before Your First Quest: Keyboard and Mouse Setup

Spend a minute finding comfortable controls before your first fight. Press Escape, then Options. These labels come from beta build 1.60.1.70205; check your own bindings before changing them.Reported, press or datamine, not confirmedSource: Installed WoW Forever beta client, build 1.60.1.70205, Game Menu and settings definitions; checked Oct 3, 2026.

  1. In Keybindings, expand Movement Keys and Action Bar.
  2. Under Controls, adjust Mouse Look Speed.
  3. In Action Bars, enable Lock Action Bars.
  4. Under Interface, try Status Text set to Both.

Group your first bar:

  • Movement: forward, backward, strafe, and jump.
  • Main attack: bind it to a key reachable while moving.
  • Defense: put one defensive ability on another reachable key.
  • Recovery: bind one heal, bandage, or potion you have.
  • Later: bind a mount after you learn one.

Practice suggestion: test the bindings on a gray or green mob outside the starting town before taking a quest.

Your existing bindings may differ from another player's.

Hold the right mouse button to turn your character, or the left to look around, and adjust Mouse Look Speed until turning feels comfortable. If the camera's automatic movement bothers you, try Camera Following Style, then Never adjust camera.Reported, press or datamine, not confirmedSource: Installed beta client, build 1.60.1.70205, TUTORIAL3 and Controls; checked Oct 3, 2026.

Enable Lock Action Bars after arranging your abilities. This stops you from dragging a spell out of its slot by accident while clicking during a fight.

Status Text set to Both shows numbers and percentages. Under Combat, enable Target of Target to see whom your target is attacking. Under Nameplates, try Enemy Unit Nameplate to tell nearby enemies apart more easily.Reported, press or datamine, not confirmedSource: Installed beta client, build 1.60.1.70205, Interface, Combat, Nameplates and Action Bars definitions and localized tooltips; checked Oct 3, 2026.

Keep the changes that help you read the fight. The Quality of Life guide explains more interface choices.

What Is New in the Starting Zones

Blizzard's Found Photos recap says every starting area gains NPCs, quests, profession hooks, recipes and small moments alongside the original content. Once you leave home, new ships run from Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine and between Menethil, Southshore and Auberdine, making it easier to meet friends on the other continent.

Your First Dungeons

The first two new dungeons Blizzard opened in the beta are low level: Hall of Thanes beneath Ironforge at levels 13 to 18, and Ruins of Lordaeron at 15 to 20.Source: The World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Now Live, checked Sep 28, 2026. The October 1 build adds a third, Excavation Site: Wetlands (26-31), and opens the original Razorfen Downs (25+) and Uldaman (30+).Source: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, October 1, Changes and Updates, checked Oct 1, 2026.

Skyborne characters level on Zephras Isle from 1 to 12 first. Blizzard says crowd control is often the answer when a pull has too many enemies, and area damage should wait until it's safe.

Trying Talents in the Beta

The September 24 beta build made a talent reset cost 1 silver if you haven't reset recently. Blizzard calls this temporary and beta only, and a second reset in a row costs much more until an hour passes. It's a cheap way to try several builds before launch.

Your First Hour

Expect slower, more deliberate pulls than a modern WoW character, even on a class you know. Blizzard has published no beginner class ranking, so pick the role you enjoy, then read its class guide. A leveling addon is optional; the FAQ below covers RestedXP and Zygor.
