How to Choose a Name You Will Keep

Start with the half that matters most. If your old character's first name already feels like yours, put it in Custom names and generate surnames around it. If you are naming a family of alts or a guild group, hold the surname instead. Change one half at a time so you can hear what improved.

Read the whole name aloud. Short syllables followed by a clear compound surname are easy to recognize in chat and voice. Try saying it after “invite” and “healer,” then imagine somebody shortening it to the first name. A striking written name can become tiring if you need to spell it every time.

Choose a theme with a reason. A holy theme can suggest an oath or protection; nature suggests a landscape or creature; shadow suggests loss, secrecy or endurance. Those are creative prompts, not character restrictions. A race-inspired style changes the generator's sound and word choices without claiming there is a mandatory naming convention for that race.

Keep two or three alternatives that you like nearly as much as your first choice. A backup made by changing the surname is often easier to remember than one made by adding arbitrary letters. Save keeps favorites in this browser; Copy moves a full name to your clipboard. Recent results let you recover a name you passed over.

First Names, Surnames and Regional Identity

Forever uses two names, and the complete pair must be unique in a region. Sharing somebody else's first name does not itself make your full name unavailable. The second part can express a family, place or reputation. It remains part of the identity even when you hide its world display; chat still shows it.Confirmed, a first-party sourceSource: Blizzard naming announcement, checked October 3, 2026.

For original examples, Meral Ashward feels restrained, Torun Riverhide points toward the outdoors, and Velan Dawnshelter suggests protection. These are naming ideas, not Blizzard characters or checks of regional availability. One surname across alts can create a family theme; use distinct first names so each character is recognizable.

For the server structure behind this system, read Forever's realmless rulesets. For playable combinations and their actual class options, use the race and class matrix.

Name Rules

Blizzard restricts confusing or impersonating names, certain words and spellings, and repeated-character patterns. It can evaluate both halves together, so splitting a prohibited expression across the first name and surname is no workaround.Confirmed, a first-party sourceSource: Blizzard naming announcement, checked October 3, 2026.

The checks below use Forever beta build 1.60.1.70205, enUS, inspected October 3, 2026 from Blizzard's public client data. They are client findings rather than a complete official published specification. The same 12-letter field caps were also verified in installed build 1.60.1.70058.

CheckWhat This Tool DoesEvidence and Limit
First-name lengthChecks 2–12 lettersBoth character-create fields cap input at 12; the 2-letter minimum is inferred from a generic client error string
Surname lengthChecks 2–12 letters and requires both partsThe regional-name flow requires a surname; the same field cap and inferred minimum apply
Combined lengthShows a countA separate full-name length limit has not been verified; no extra numeric cap is invented
Spaces and punctuation inside a partKeeps generated names alphabetic; flags digits, spaces, hyphens and apostrophes in custom partsBoth client fields are alphabetic-only; the space between the two displayed parts is a separator
Repeated lettersFlags three identical consecutive lettersThe inspected client contains a matching generic name-error message; exact native matching remains unverified
Diacritics and other scriptsCounts normalized Unicode characters and gives a game-check cautionExact locale-specific alphabet rules, casing and native Unicode normalization remain unverified
Restricted names and wordsScreens parts and their concatenation against the extracted snapshot and an additional moderation layerClient data is a partial filter, not the complete server policy
Name availabilityLeaves it to the gameNo Blizzard availability service is connected

Unicode input is normalized to NFC for this tool's counts and comparisons; that is our preparation behavior, not a claim about the server. An accented name is not automatically treated as an ASCII spelling by the game. The generated shortlist uses plain Latin letters for readability and to avoid depending on unverified script permissions.

Where the Restriction Data Comes From

The downloadable restriction snapshot identifies its build, tables, extraction date, locale coverage and checksums. Its 9,156 patterns come from the current public Blizzard client: NamesProfanity, NamesReserved and NamesReservedLocale. Wago corroborated the build and table schemas; its CSV exports were not used. This is client-data coverage, not a complete view of Blizzard's server filters.

Numeric language identifiers and locale masks are preserved, but their exact Forever runtime mapping remains unverified. This tool conservatively screens all imported patterns across languages. That may reject a candidate that a particular game locale permits. It does not offer a locale selector that would imply otherwise.

The filter also checks the two parts joined together and applies a conservative local moderation layer. If a name is rejected, choose different roots rather than trying to disguise the same expression. A preparation-check result cannot account for all contextual policy decisions, names reserved by Blizzard or names already chosen by players.

Forsaken Paladin and Undead Paladin Name Ideas

Choose Forsaken with Holy for a name that pairs a sober first name with an oath, dawn or protection motif. “Undead” and “Forsaken” searches lead to the same style here. For a darker character concept, change the theme to Shadow while keeping the first name; for a less dramatic identity, try Classic.

A contrast can give the name a story without making it a joke: a quiet first name with a hopeful surname, or a dignified first name with a weathered surname. Meral Ashward and Velan Dawnshelter illustrate that approach. These are editorial examples. The generator does not reproduce named Warcraft heroes by default or assign a backstory to your character.

Use the Forsaken guide for race details and the Paladin guide for the class. This page helps with naming; those pages own their gameplay guidance.

Tauren Names and Other Race-Inspired Styles

Choose Tauren with Nature for broad vowel sounds and grounded compound surnames. Keep the name easy to call out: a compact first name beside a river, stone or hide motif reads clearly. Torun Riverhide is an original example. A heroic theme can add resolve, while classic keeps the result understated. See the Tauren guide for actual racial information.

The remaining styles are creative starting points. Human favors familiar syllables; Dwarf favors sturdy sounds and craft motifs; Night Elf favors flowing sounds and woodland imagery; Gnome favors brisk names and playful craft; Orc favors clipped syllables; Troll favors rhythmic sounds; Skyborne favors airy imagery. These are this generator's editorial choices, not official rules or claims that every member of a race names themselves alike.

To make a result more personal, add a short first-name prefix or suffix in Custom names. The finished part still goes through the same checks. Avoid piling several motifs into one surname; a single memorable image usually carries more personality than a string of titles.

Prepare for Early Name Reservation

Blizzard confirms October 27 through November 3, 2026, PST, with any upgrade purchase and up to three characters that you can create and customize. Reservation is first-come, first-served; desired names are not guaranteed. The announced global launch is November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST.Confirmed, a first-party sourceSource: Blizzard upgrade announcement, checked October 3, 2026.

Before the window, choose your intended race and class, save full-name alternatives, and copy them somewhere you can reach on launch day. Browser favorites do not travel automatically to another device. Keep a surname alternative beside your preferred first name so a declined combination does not force you to start again.

The article gives a date window, not an exact opening hour. Do not infer midnight or use the launch timer as a reservation-start timer. Our beta and launch tracker, edition comparison and launch countdown own the broader schedule and purchase details.
