Race Access

You can roll a Warlock as a Human, Gnome, Orc, Troll or Forsaken, and Troll is the new one. Blizzard's Create the Hero tables, published September 22, 2026, list all five Warlock races: Human and Gnome on the Alliance, Orc, Troll, and Forsaken on the Horde. Warcraft Tavern and Wowhead reported the same five earlier. Nothing confirms a best race.

Current Class Evidence

Blizzard's October 7 deep dive sets out the Warlock changes: pets scale from their master's stats, Firestone and Spellstone apply Weapon Imbues, Curse of the Elements covers all magic damage, Curse of Shadows is removed, and Drain Soul has a progressive chance per tick to grant a Soul Shard. October 1 Beta Build Changes

Hellfire can now crit and pets get Aggressive Mode back in Blizzard's October 1 beta build, which changes five Warlock details and cleans up the Cooldown Manager. Confirmed for the beta, not promised for launch. The October 1 patch notes summary covers every class.Source: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, October 1, checked Oct 1, 2026.

  • Drain Soul: now correctly interrupted when you start another cast.
  • Hellfire: can now critically strike.
  • Soul Harvest: the new name for Affliction's Soul Harvesting.
  • Soul Harvest: now correctly grants its 50/100% Mana regeneration increase.
  • Incubus: the pet model is now a lower resolution model.
  • Pets: Aggressive Mode returns, under the spell book's pet tab.
  • Cooldown Manager: duplicate spell rank entries should no longer appear.
  • Cooldown Manager: racial abilities are supported too.

Early Player Reads and Community Impressions

Treat early Warlock excitement as a sign of interest, not a performance ranking: full talent trees, pet formulas, and written rotation guides are still open. In community analysis, Khalma notes that Warlock looks wild from early kit impressions. Blizzard's Deep Dive panel recap backs up the design side: tactical dungeon crowd control, explicitly naming Banish and Fear, and deliberate 10 to 15 second combat pacing are core design pillars for Forever.

How Much the Warlock Trees Changed From Classic

Expect different Warlock trees from Classic: in a third-party read of the beta client, most talents changed or dropped out. WoW Forever Talents, that third-party read of beta client build 1.60.1.70009, checks every Warlock talent against Classic Era 1.15.9. Of the 50 Classic Warlock talents, only 4 read the same word for word.Source: WoW Forever Talents, talent changes, checked Sep 28, 2026.

30 changed, 4 of them renames, and 16 dropped out of the trees. 18 new talents bring the total to 52 across Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction. That site's FAQ calls Warlock the class that changed the most. The tally comes from that third-party read, so treat it as reported.

Sixteen Talents Dropped, Four Renamed

Sixteen talents drop out of the trees in the client read, but trainers reportedly teach Dark Pact instead, so you keep that spell without spending a talent point. The client read lists Dark Pact, Grim Reach, Improved Curse of Exhaustion, Improved Curse of Weakness, Improved Drain Mana, Fel Intellect, Fel Stamina, Improved Firestone, Improved Healthstone, Improved Spellstone, Improved Subjugate Demon, Devastation, Emberstorm, Improved Firebolt, Improved Immolate, and Improved Lash of Pain as gone. Blizzard's October 15 notes bring Grim Reach back in place of Malediction.Blizzard: October 15 beta notes, post 6, Warlock > Affliction.

Four talents kept their job under new names: Improved Bane of Agony (was Improved Curse of Agony), Soul Siphon (was Improved Drain Life), Soul Harvest (renamed from Improved Drain Soul), and Agonizing Flames (was Improved Searing Pain). Fel Vitality is a new row 2 talent, not a rename.

Talent text now reads Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom, and the new Bane of Havoc, while Curse of Exhaustion and Curse of Weakness keep the Curse name. The September 24 beta notes list Banes and Curses as separate tracking categories, Blizzard's only word that both families exist.Source: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, updated September 24, checked Sep 28, 2026.

Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom and the talent Bane of Havoc carry the Bane name, while Curse of the Elements and Curse of Recklessness stay Curses.

Affliction Changed the Most

In the build 1.60.1.70009 client read, Affliction's new talents boost damage over time and crits on it. The same dated read says Affliction moved furthest of the three trees: 6 new talents, 10 changed, and 6 gone. Blizzard's October 15 notes replace Malediction with Grim Reach and raise Shadow Mastery to 2/4/6/8/10%.Blizzard: October 15 beta notes, post 6, Warlock > Affliction.

  • Wrack: a new 6-second spell, 36 Shadow damage per second.
  • Wrack's target: 10% more from other Shadow damage over time.
  • Pandemic: up to 100% critical strike damage bonus.
  • Malediction: 5% periodic damage; replaced by Grim Reach Oct 15.
  • Malevolence: up to 5% Shadow critical chance.
  • Improved Drains: up to 20% more from three spells.
  • Soul Harvest: a Drain Soul kill boosts mana regen.

Pandemic's bonus applies to your DoTs and drains. Improved Drains covers Drain Life, , and Wrack. Soul Harvest's boost lasts 10 seconds; the talent was named before the October 1 beta build.

Pandemic matters most for planning: it only pays off if Corruption and the Banes can crit. The tooltip implies they can, but Blizzard hasn't explained how periodic crits work in Forever.

Share Image: Pandemic talent tooltip at rank 3/3 in a community Warlock talent calculator, raising critical strike damage of Corruption, Banes, drains and Wrack by 100%

Its tooltip names Corruption, , , the drains and Wrack, the spells in the paragraph above.

Pets and Demons in the Reported Demonology Tree

Talent text still names the Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Incubus, and Felhunter, and the Imp and Voidwalker talents keep their Classic 30%. Improved Imp keeps that 30% ceiling on Firebolt and Fire Shield but no longer boosts Blood Pact. Improved Voidwalker's 30% to Torment, Consume Shadows, Sacrifice, and Suffering matches Classic apart from a comma.

Improved Felhunter is new. Each point raises Tainted Blood's Attack Power reduction, Devour Magic's healing, and Paranoia's detection by 10%, and cuts Spell Lock's cooldown by 2 seconds.

Demonic Sacrifice Loses Its Old Downside

With Demonic Pact, a new talent, summoning a different demon no longer cancels your Demonic Sacrifice buff. Only resummoning the sacrificed pet ends it, where Classic canceled the buff on any summon. Demonic Knowledge, also new, adds spell damage to you and your demon while a demon is out. Client data says up to 100% of your level at max rank; Blizzard's October 7 article says up to 33%. That conflict is open.

Share Image: Demonic Pact talent tooltip in the Demonology tree of a community Warlock talent calculator, keeping the Demonic Sacrifice effect when another demon is summoned

The tooltip matches the paragraph above: summoning a different demon no longer cancels the effect, but resummoning the sacrificed pet still does.

Soul Link reads the same as Classic: 30% of damage taken moves to the demon, and both deal 3% more. Master Demonologist keeps its 10% ceiling but swaps effects. The Imp now adds Fire damage instead of cutting threat, the Succubus or Incubus adds Shadow damage instead of all damage, and the Felhunter cuts magic damage taken instead of adding resistances.

Decimation, a new Demonology talent, cuts Soul Fire's cooldown by 90% at 2 points. After Shadow Bolt or Searing Pain hits a target below 35% health, Soul Fire casts 40% faster and costs no Soul Shard for 10 seconds.

New Destruction Spells and Talents

Destruction gains Incinerate and Bane of Havoc, both new in the client read. Incinerate is a new Destruction talent spell, dealing 99 to 115 Fire damage in the client read, plus 25% more against a target with Immolate. , also new, copies 15% of your damage on other targets onto the one target it afflicts, for 5 minutes.

Fire and Brimstone adds up to 25% critical strike chance to Conflagrate at 3 points. Shadow and Flame, at 5 points, makes Conflagrate never consume Immolate and Shadowburn always refund a Soul Shard, and each hit grants a 10% damage buff to the other school for 20 seconds.

At 5/5 the tooltip gives Conflagrate and Shadowburn each a 10% damage buff for 20 seconds, plus the Immolate and Soul Shard effects described above.

Molten Skin and Ruin

Molten Skin is new and reduces all damage taken by up to 10% at 5 points. Ruin now costs 5 points for the same 100% critical strike damage bonus that Classic gave for 1 point, a steeper price for the same payoff.

What the Beta Build Means for Playing a Warlock Now

Treat every talent above as a beta snapshot from a third-party data read: none of this is a Blizzard rotation. The client read gives tooltip numbers, not a leveling order, stat priority, or tier list. Blizzard's promise stops at "updates across all specializations" and names no Warlock mechanic.Blizzard: Battle.net product page.

Blizzard can rename, retune, or cut any of it before launch. The beta runs through October 21, 2026, and the September 24 fixes to Life Tap and Voidwalker Sacrifice show that changes are already landing. Use the trees to plan a build on the talent calculator, not as a finished one.

What Players Say

Streamers are split on warlock. Eight of the 16 streamers who spoke on it call it strong, broken, or underrated, mostly in PvP and duels at level 30. Three say early leveling is weak. Opinions from live streams, not confirmed facts.

“But I think that the way they designed the warlock is pretty cool.”
