October 1 Beta Build Changes
Pets get Aggressive Mode back, Marksmanship's Sniper Shot reaches 45 yards, and Survival's Deflection gives half its old parry. Blizzard's October 1 beta development notes change pets, Marksmanship and Survival for that build. These are confirmed beta changes, not launch promises.Source: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, October 1, checked Oct 1, 2026.

Pet ability ranks: beasts with ranks too high for their level are fixed. Blizzard says those ranks could cause "a bug where your pet “forgot” the pet ability,"
which should not happen after the fix.Blizzard: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, October 1, checked Oct 1, 2026.
- Cooldown Manager: adds Rogue and racials; Hunter still isn't named.
- Every class: October 1 beta notes summary.
What Is Still Unknown
Specs, final talents, most pet mechanics and Human Hunter timing are still open.
- Whether Forever keeps Hunter as DPS only.
- How Hunter specializations, rotations, and tuning work.
- Final talent values and layout at launch.
- Launch point totals and resource rules.
- Most pet mechanics: families, commands, pet talents, stable slots.
- Human Hunter timing.
- Whether the spring combinations are still planned.
- Whether either spring combination is a Hunter option.
The September 24 and October 1 notes settle only the taming level cap, Aggressive Mode, and a few pet abilities. Blizzard announced the Human Hunter pairing, but doesn't separately say whether it's available in the beta or at launch. The spring combinations come from the deleted roadmap image. The Skyborne guide has both Skyborne racial sets.
Our Hunter Beast Mastery talent order lists a Beast Mastery talent order, the level-10 pet quest, trainer visits through the beta's level-30 cap, and Hunter quest zone advice.Source: Hunter leveling guide, "Levels 1 to 30: every trainer visit and talent point," "What talent path should you use from 10 to 60?" and "Where should you quest as a Hunter from 1 to 60?" sections, checked Oct 8, 2026. Levels 31-60 are a talent plan, and the zone advice points to faction brackets rather than a tested quest-by-quest itinerary. Guide makers are writing their own: the RestedXP Forever leveling guide lists class-specific routes and is still being built.Source: RestedXP Horde product page, checked Sep 28, 2026. To follow a route instead, compare the two leveling addons in Zygor vs RestedXP.
Original Hunter Baseline
Read the Classic Hunter as background only, because Forever's final Hunter kit can differ. Blizzard's Classic guide is background, not a Forever specification. It lists Dwarf, Night Elf, Orc, Tauren, and Troll; assigns Hunter to DPS; and names Survival, Marksmanship, and Beast Mastery. Background on Human racials and starting zone is in the race guide, next to faction baselines for every race.
For progression, the shared guide covers dungeon and quest XP weighting, and our Hunter leveling guide adds a Beast Mastery order and points to faction brackets, not a tested quest-by-quest itinerary.Source: Hunter leveling guide, "What talent path should you use from 10 to 60?" and "Where should you quest as a Hunter from 1 to 60?" sections, checked Oct 8, 2026.
The Three Specs, and the Choice They Force
Each of the three trees pulls in a different direction in the beta client, so picking one is a real choice. A community read of build 1.60.1.70009 against Classic Era 1.15.9.69722 counts 51 Hunter talents: 14 new, 26 reworked, 11 unchanged, and 9 Classic talents missing from the trees.Source: WoW Forever Talents Hunter tree, checked Sep 28, 2026. That is a reported datamine, not a Blizzard calculator.

Pet or No Pet
Beast Mastery still rewards a live pet, and Marksmanship pays you to play without one. Focused Fire adds up to 2% damage for you and your pet while it is active, and Unleashed Fury now raises pet and hawk damage by up to 15%, down from Classic's 20%. Marksmanship's new bets the other way: 20% more damage with all attacks while you have no active pet.
Only one of those bonuses can be live at a time, so the tree you invest in decides whether the pet stays out. Blizzard's September 24 notes already fixed one Lone Wolf bug, a leftover -4% damage penalty with the pet out after you untalented it.
Hawks, Shots and Intellect
Beast Mastery trades a shot for a hawk, and Marksmanship turns Intellect into Attack Power. Beast Mastery's new Summon Hawk sends a hawk to dive-bomb your target for 18 seconds, with two hawks active at most. It shares a cooldown with Arcane Shot, so it replaces a shot rather than adding one. The Beast Mastery tree page has every rank.
Marksmanship adds Careful Aim, which turns up to 100% of your Intellect into Attack Power. Marksmanship's 31-point capstone, , is a 4 second cast that adds 160 ranged damage. The October 1 beta build gives Sniper Shot a 45 yard range and 10 extra yards on your next 3 shots within 10 secondsConfirmed for the beta. Rapid Recuperation returns mana regeneration while casting after Serpent Sting hits. See the Marksmanship tree page.
Survival's Melee Turn
Survival turns the Hunter toward melee, and it changed most: 6 new talents, 10 reworked, 4 removed and only 2 untouched. adds up to 30% melee critical strike damage and 50% offhand weapon damage. Expose Prey gives attacks on a Hunter's Marked target up to a 10% chance to enable Mongoose Bite.
, the 31-point talent, makes Mongoose Bite bleed for 40% of its damage over 21 seconds. is a 100% weapon damage kick that Blizzard's September 24 notes gave 30% movement speed for 3 seconds. The Survival tree page has point costs.
Hunter Races and Racials
Hunter has eight race entries, four per faction, and Human is the one new pairing. Blizzard's September 22 tables give the race list in the table above. Blizzard's class blurb frames Hunters around taming and tracking: they have "an uncanny knack for befriending wild animals and taming them as pets."Blizzard: Create the Hero, checked Sep 28, 2026.

Beast Damage and Weapon Racials
Troll Beast Slaying and Dwarf Big Game Hunter each add 5% damage against Beasts in Blizzard's racial list. Night Elf Quickness adds 1% Dodge and 2% run speed in that list. The October 15 notes raise Skyborne Wind Blessed to 3% Haste, from 1%.Sources: Blizzard, September 22 racial list for unchanged baseline effects; October 15 beta development notes, post 6, for the stated changes; retained capture Oct 18, 2026. The October 15 notes replace Orc Axe Specialization with Savage, 1% increased critical strike chance, and Dwarf Mace Specialization with Earth Fury, 2% increased critical damage and healing. These replacement notes state no weapon condition. They do not establish a Hunter race ranking.Sources: Blizzard, September 22 racial list for unchanged baseline effects; October 15 beta development notes, post 6, for the stated changes; retained capture Oct 18, 2026. Hunter Spell Changes in the Client Read
The same client read counts 7 new trainer spells and 24 changed ones: it lists 56 trainer spells, with 25 unchanged. These are reported tooltip reads.
Shots and Traps
Aimed Shot adds far less bonus damage and now shares a cooldown with Multi-Shot. Aimed Shot is now a trainer spell with a 2 second cast and a 6 second cooldown that it shares with Multi-Shot, so the two compete for one window. Its bonus damage is far lower: rank 2 adds 34 ranged damage, against 125 in Classic Era. Frost Trap keeps its 60% slow but loses the Classic line that traps can only be placed out of combat.
Aspect of the Beast now adds Melee Attack Power, 50 at rank 1 and 90 by rank 3, on top of making you untrackable. Lacerate is a new melee bleed, 147 damage over 21 seconds at level 30. Enchanted Flare, a new level 32 spell, exposes hidden enemies and "staves off magical darkness for 30 sec."
Blizzard's October 15 notes make Auto Shot wait until you stand still for 0.5 seconds, matching early World of Warcraft. It still fires while you cast Aimed Shot or Sniper Shot. The same notes add an Auto Attack/Auto Shot setting: when enabled, Hunters switch automatically between auto attack and Auto Shot, and it works on gamepad too.Source: October 15 beta notes, post 6, Changes and Updates and Hunter.
Spells the Client Carries but the Beta May Not
Aspect of the Viper, Heart of the Lion and Aspect of the Falcon may not be in the beta: they appear as new, but the read flags all three as carried over from Season of Discovery client tables. Viper trades 10% damage for mana regeneration. Only the class trainer can confirm them. The read says Aspect of the Falcon is "not yet seen on the Forever beta."
One Pet Ability, and Open Questions Everywhere Else
Little is settled about pet abilities: a pre-beta community demo showed one Owl ability, and Blizzard's notes adjust only a few pet abilities and rules. A September 14 video read of a pre-beta community demo showed an Owl pet with a four-second disarm, plus Assist and Move To commands.Source: Cajato, WoW Forever Hunter video, checked Sep 28, 2026. Blizzard's October 15 notes give Crocolisk Dismember, Bat Sonic Blast and Bird of Prey Mine! shorter durations and longer cooldowns.Source: October 15 beta notes, post 6, Hunter > Pets.
No Blizzard page lists pet families, taming rules or stable size; the September 24 notes only cap at your level and change Furious Howl and Sonic Blast. The October 1 notes bring back Aggressive Mode under the pet tab of the spellbook.
What Classic Hunters Lose in Forever
The same client read finds nine Classic Era Hunter talents missing from the Forever trees. Improved Eyes of the Beast, Thick Hide, Improved Hunter's Mark, Improved Scorpid Sting, Humanoid Slaying, Improved Feign Death and Killer Instinct are simply absent.Source: WoW Forever Talents Hunter tree, checked Sep 28, 2026.
and Wyvern Sting also leave the trees, and the talent read says both are taught by trainers instead. The read's own spellbook view disagrees on one: Aimed Shot appears as a trainer spell at rank 6, but Wyvern Sting is marked "Not in Forever." Treat Wyvern Sting as unresolved until the live client settles it.
Four Talents Keep Their Old Spell Under a New Name
Four old talents return under new names, and Improved Tracking changes the most.
- Deadly Aspects replaces Improved Aspect of the Hawk.
- Lethal Attacks replaces Lethal Shots, now for all attacks.
- Improved Tracking replaces Monster Slaying, three ranks to five.
- Survival Tactics replaces Trap Mastery.
Improved Tracking is the biggest shift. It now adds up to 5% damage against whatever creature type you are tracking, across seven types, instead of Classic's fixed Beasts, Giants and Dragonkin bonus. Deadly Aspects also gains a melee half: under , melee auto attacks have up to a 10% chance to give 30% faster melee attacks for 12 seconds, matching the ranged proc under Aspect of the Hawk.
What the Beta Cannot Show Yet
at level 30 is now testable at the beta's new cap, but Aspect of the Falcon at 60 cannot be tested before launch. Blizzard opened the beta at a level 20 cap and said it would rise to 30 later.Source: The World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Now Live, checked Sep 28, 2026. Guide makers hit the same wall: Zygor Guides says beta level limits may restrict what its Forever guides cover on day one.
