They're a new elven race that starts on Zephras Isle at levels 1 to 12, playing Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid on both sides, plus Mage for the Alliance and Shaman for the Horde.
Blizzard describes the WoW Forever Skyborne race as a new playable elven race. Zephras Isle is its elemental, skybound starting experience for levels 1 through 12, with Classic Warcraft aesthetics and architecture inspired by Skywall. Riverglades and the other named areas are listed with it in the zone list and its evidence.
The current faction and class details come from Blizzard's September 12 What's Next Panel Recap. Forever is still in pre-purchase, with launch announced for November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST.

Skyborne Factions and Classes Are Confirmed
A Skyborne player chooses Horde or Alliance at character creation, and both factions can play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid. Horde-aligned Skyborne follow elemental traditions and can play Shaman. Alliance-aligned Skyborne follow their ancestors' arcane legacy and can play Mage.

The panel recap gives the current Skyborne class list and confirms new druid forms, racials, customizations, voices, dances, and visual options. The Druid form and tree evidence tracks what has been published about those forms. It does not name the racial abilities or list the individual druid forms.
The official Skyborne short uses the lines "Travel the Arcane road with the Alliance"
and "Master the Elements with the Horde."Blizzard: Choose your path as Azeroth's newest playable race: the Skyborne, checked Sep 13, 2026.
Those lines describe the two faction paths, but they are not a complete ruleset.
Heroic Pack Access for Skyborne and Zephras Isle
To play a Skyborne, you need the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition. A WoW Subscription or Game Time covers base access to Forever at launch, but not the Skyborne entitlement. Battle.net's Product Requirements say access to the Skyborne race or the Zephras Isle starting experience questline requires the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition.
The Battle.net product page and Blizzard's pre-purchase announcement both treat race access and beta access as separate.
The Skyborne Heroic Pack includes the race and Zephras Isle starting experience, not beta access. The Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection include those Heroic benefits and add beta access beginning September 17. Blizzard Support also lists the physical WoW: Forever Collector's Edition as a guaranteed beta path.
Current US prices and bundle contents are in our WoW Forever editions and pricing article.
Open Questions at the Original Reveal
At the original reveal, several Skyborne details were unresolved: the Skyborne racial ability names, the exact druid-form list, a faction-change policy, the complete Zephras Isle map, landmarks, and starting quest sequence, and where Skyborne go after the levels 1 through 12 starting experience. The Skyborne race guide tracks the confirmed class matrix and these unresolved questions.
The Forever announcement schedules a Forever Deep Dive for September 13 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. At that original announcement cutoff, the racial mechanics and deeper Zephras Isle lore were unannounced; the September 22 update below records the later details.
October 15 Racial Update
The October 15 beta notes raise Wind Blessed to 3% Haste, reduce Walk on Air's cooldown to 90 seconds, allow Skysight and Read Leyline to be cast while moving, and give Read Leyline a 30-second minimum duration.
The September 22 racial wording below remains a dated snapshot.Sources: Blizzard, September 22 racial list for unchanged baseline effects; October 15 beta development notes, post 6, for the stated changes; retained capture Oct 18, 2026. Official wording; realm behavior not tested.
Skyborne Racial Abilities, Confirmed September 22
Ten days after the panel recap, Blizzard published racials for both Skyborne groups, filling the biggest gap this report flagged. Two articles published on September 22, 2026, Create the Hero and Meet the New Skyborne, give the exact racial text for both Skyborne groupsConfirmed, a first-party source.
Windshaper Skyborne, Horde
Horde Skyborne get four racials: two for movement and two combat bonuses.
Blizzard calls the Horde-aligned Skyborne "descendants of the first shen’dorei high elves to receive the wind spirits’ gift of elemental skysight."Blizzard: Meet the New Skyborne, checked Sep 28, 2026.
Their four racials: Walk on Air glides downward for 10 seconds, Skysight grants an Elemental Blessing that raises run speed by 10%, Wind Blessed adds 1% melee, ranged and spellcasting Haste, and Elemental Insight raises damage to Elementals by 5%.
High Order Skyborne, Alliance
Alliance Skyborne swap Skysight for Read Ley Line, a Health and Mana regeneration boost, and share their other racials with the other side.
Alliance-aligned Skyborne descend from "the ancient Highborne scholars of Eldre’Thalas,"
per the same article.Blizzard: WoW: Forever Meet the New Skyborne, checked Sep 28, 2026. They swap Skysight for Read Ley Line, which activates a ley line for 100% increased Health and Mana regeneration. Walk on Air, Wind Blessed and Elemental Insight are the same on both sides.
Players disagree on how strong that is. In community analysis, Khalma questioned whether Read Ley Line's Mana regeneration is tuned too high for competitive PvP. That is one player's early opinion. Blizzard's September 22 text gave no cooldown or duration for the ability; the October 15 notes raise its minimum duration to 30 seconds, from 20.
Character Customization Revealed With the Racials
You can customize a Skyborne across two body types; Meet the New Skyborne lists the character-creation options for each.
Body Type 1 and Body Type 2 Options
Both body types get ten faces and nine skin colors, from sky blue to light peach to darker tones, and differ mostly on hair and extras. Body Type 1 has twenty-one hairstyles, eleven hair colors, three ear lengths, nine eye colors and four eyebrow styles.
It adds thirteen facial hair options, four face tattoos in two colors, and two body tattoos, Zephyr and Wayfinder, each in two colors.
Body Type 2 keeps the same face, skin, eye, ear and eyebrow counts but offers twenty-five hairstyles and ten hair colors. It adds six earring styles in silver or gold, plus face tattoo colors and the same two body tattoos.
Feathers, Barbershop and Emotes
Skyborne can add feathers, change them later at a barbershop, and use their own /dance.
Both body types can pick feather colors and weave feathers into the hair. Blizzard says a barbershop "within the cities"
can change these choices later for "a little bit of your hard-earned coin."Blizzard: WoW: Forever Meet the New Skyborne, checked Sep 28, 2026.
Skyborne also get their own /dance, and the article lists other emotes such as /laugh, /flirt, /applaud and /cackle.
Why Zephras Isle Exists: The Shen’dorei's Broken Pact
A new Skyborne arrives in a civilization in crisis, with the air spirits that protected the island gone. Meet the New Skyborne tells the story the panel recap left out: thousands of years ago, a group of Highborne exiles made a pact with elemental wind spirits and built a civilization inside Skywall, one of the elemental planes.
When a new character arrives, that civilization is in crisis. The air spirits that protected the island have vanished, ancient structures are failing, communities are isolated and the Skyborne are divided over what comes next. That crisis, not a settled homeland, is the backdrop for the level 1 to 12 climb.

What the September 24 Beta Notes Changed on Zephras Isle
Blizzard's beta development notes fixed several named Skyborne quests a week after the beta opened on September 17.
Quests and Locations Named in the Fixes
The High Order quest "Catching Wind"
was redesigned, with spawn changes at the Overlook Standing Stones in the Shen'dar Highlands. Nightclaw Cavern's druids now award credit for "Wounds of Betrayal"
when healed, and "A Firm Response"
no longer fails to grant credit.Blizzard: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, Updated September 24, checked Sep 28, 2026.
A Skyborne Quest That Leaves the Island
"Exploring the Horde,"
listed under Undercity, now completes its objective to talk with Lady Sylvanas Windrunner.Blizzard: WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, Updated September 24, checked Sep 28, 2026. None of these quests has a published level, order or reward, so treat them as beta fixes that can change before launch.
Where Skyborne Go After Zephras Isle
Blizzard has not published a post-level-12 route. At BlizzCon's Creator Showcase on September 13, encounter designer Jay said the area of Dalaran's Violet Citadel overlooking Lordamere Lake is "a Skyborne exclusive area,"
reached by skyship from Zephras.Blizzard: World of Warcraft: Forever - Creator Showcase | BlizzCon 2026, checked Sep 28, 2026.
That is a planned feature shown before the beta, not yet described in any beta note.
RestedXP Releases Already List Skyborne Routes
The RestedXP RXPGuides release notes list Skyborne route work in three releases: v4.11.8 lists "Skyborne: 1-10 Improvements (Horde, Shaman)" and "refine Skyborne leveling route"; v4.11.9 (September 22) lists "expand and refine the Skyborne leveling guide" and "add and restructure quest routing throughout Skyborne"; v4.11.10 (September 25) lists "Refine Skyborne quest routing" and "Skyborne: Horde Update 10-12".
These release-note entries do not verify working addons, an installed guide, paid-package coverage, or in-game behavior.Source: RXPGuides v4.11.8 release notes, v4.11.9 release notes, and v4.11.10 release notes.
How the Skyborne Faction Choice Differs From Classic
Skyborne moves the faction choice to character creation, so one race can join either side. In Classic Era, each race belongs to one faction: a Tauren is always Horde and a Dwarf is always Alliance.
Technical Notes
- In Classic Era the faction is fixed by race, so on any server a Tauren is Horde and a Dwarf is Alliance.
What Each Side Gives Up
Your faction decides between Shaman and Mage: a Windshaper Skyborne can be a Shaman but not a Mage, and a High Order Skyborne can be a Mage but not a Shaman. Neither side can play Paladin, Priest or Warlock, as the full race and class matrix shows.
The Zephras Isle zone guide collects what the beta shows of the starting island.
