A capped beta means a crowd of people leveling the same early levels at once, which is about as Classic as it gets. The Skyborne Epic Pack, the Collection or the Collector's Edition guarantees a spot, Heroic isn't listed as a guarantee, and developers said launch starts fresh at level 1.

Update, October 1: Blizzard raised the beta level cap to 30. Kaivax's maintenance post (October 1, 00:17 UTC) says the beta returns from the October 1 maintenance with an updated build "with the level cap raised to 30."Blizzard: Beta Update Maintenance - October 1, checked Oct 1, 2026.

The beta went offline at about 11 a.m. PDT, and Blizzard has not yet posted the change list. The level 30 report tracks the update.

Update, September 30: Kaivax, a Blizzard community manager, posted on the beta forum that the beta goes offline for maintenance on the morning of October 1 PDT: "Several hours later, the Beta will resume with an updated build that includes changes and fixes, with the level cap raised to 30."Blizzard: Beta Update Maintenance - October 1, checked Oct 1, 2026.

The post gives no hour. October 1 is two weeks after the September 17 start, in line with the developers' “a couple weeks.” The October 1 update above carries that raise.

Update, September 25: Blizzard's beta launch article, published September 17 at 21:00 UTC, put the level plan in writing: "When the test begins, the level cap will be set to 20 and will be raised to 30 later in the beta."

It calls October 21 "the last full day of testing" and lists Week 1 content: Skyborne, Zephras Isle, Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, and zone content up to level 20.Blizzard: The World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Now Live, checked Sep 25, 2026. The roadmap's October 22 still stands, so the end-date conflict below stays open.

Blizzard's September 12, 2026 announcement put the World of Warcraft: Forever beta on the calendar for September 17, 2026. The official roadmap pairs that start with planned play up to level 30. A developer interview described an initial level-20 cap that would rise to level 30 after “a couple weeks,” and Blizzard confirmed the raise for October 1.

Beta access and testing details are spread across Blizzard's product, support, roadmap, and spoken interview sources, so the end-date conflict below stays in view.

Confirmed Access Rules

Three purchases guarantee a beta spot: the Skyborne Epic Pack, the Warcraft Forever Collection, and the physical World of Warcraft: Forever Collector's Edition. Blizzard Support lists all three guaranteed-beta paths in World of Warcraft Alpha or Beta Access. Buy the digital Epic Pack or Collection and the purchasing account is flagged for the beta automatically.

A physical Collector's Edition buyer gets a redeemable beta code by email, sent to the address used for the Gear Store purchase. Redeem that code on the account you plan to play on. Support says it can't grant beta access, replace a lost code, or fix a code redeemed on the wrong account.

Old Guardian World of Warcraft Forever shows how to get into the Forever beta, September 15, 2026.

Support also says an account chosen after signup is flagged automatically. If a digital upgrade didn't grant access, check Battle.net Transaction History for an order status of Complete. If the upgrade was a gift, talk to the friend who sent it.

Blizzard Support's Invite-A-Friend Codes article says Collector's Editions purchased at local retailers in Korea, Australia, and New Zealand are not eligible for Invite-A-Friend codes. Version 12 (September 14) also excluded those copies from Beta invites. Version 16 (September 18) no longer says so, and the Beta Access article doesn't mention them.

That regional retail note doesn't change the guaranteed-beta path for Collector's Editions bought through the Gear Store.

The current Battle.net product page lists each edition's beta and access boundary. The edition-by-edition entitlement guide tracks these boundaries in full:

EditionUS priceBeta and access boundary
Skyborne Heroic Pack$29.99Skyborne race and Zephras Isle starting experience, plus launch preparation benefits. It is not listed as a guaranteed-beta path.
Skyborne Epic Pack$59.99Guaranteed beta access, 30 days of Game Time at launch, and three Invite-A-Friend launch codes.
Warcraft Forever Collection$79.99Guaranteed beta access and the Epic Pack benefits, plus the Collection's other listed Warcraft content.
Physical Collector's Edition$150.00 US Gear Store listingGuaranteed beta access through the emailed code described by Support. Local-retailer copies in Korea, Australia, and New Zealand get no Invite-A-Friend codes.

Blizzard Support article 000134449 (version 10, updated September 14, 2026) explicitly states: "Game time is not required to participate in the beta, but access is required."Blizzard: World of Warcraft Alpha or Beta Access, checked Sep 14, 2026.

The Battle.net product page still says Forever launch access starts November 4, 2026 with a WoW Subscription or Game Time, and the launch schedule report covers that date on its own. Keep the beta-access rule and the launch-access rule separate.

Timing and the Planned Test Scope

Expect testing to run from September 17 to October 21, with the roadmap's October 22 still in conflict.

Blizzard's pre-purchase announcement says the beta begins September 17, 2026, Pacific Time, and runs through October 21, 2026, Pacific Time. The Battle.net product page repeats October 21.

Blizzard's roadmap graphic, first posted by @Warcraft, reads "SEPT 17 - OCT 22" and "PLAY UP TO LEVEL 30."Blizzard: World of Warcraft: Forever What's Next Panel Recap (2026-2027 roadmap graphic), checked Sep 28, 2026.

A September 17 check of the official World of Warcraft: Forever page found a third Blizzard surface carrying the earlier date, in a footnote reading “WoW®: Forever Beta begins on September 17, 2026, and is available through October 21, 2026.”Blizzard: World of Warcraft: Forever, checked Sep 17, 2026.

Both end dates are current first-party statements, and the roadmap's October 22 hasn't been corrected or withdrawn. We keep October 21 and October 22 visible until Blizzard updates one of them, with the weight of evidence on October 21. The level-30 line was a roadmap plan when posted, and Blizzard has since confirmed the October 1 raise to 30.

That is a beta limit, not a permanent cap. The roadmap also says content and timing may change. The roadmap post report records the same image and its milestone list.

None of the sources we checked gives an exact daily opening or shutdown time, a beta phase or wave schedule, a test population, or a list of activities enabled at level 30. Blizzard scheduled the World of Warcraft Developer Q&A for September 17 with a dedicated Forever segment to answer community questions ahead of testing.

The pre-launch product and announcement pages didn't say which content the beta would include. The beta launch article in the update above later named the Week 1 content.

Developer-Described Beta Pacing

Expect level 30 from October 1 and a fresh start at level 1 at launch. Blizzard confirmed the raise; staying at 30 and the fresh start are developer statements.

In a September 13, 2026 Destin interview, Blizzard developers said the beta is planned to open with a level-20 cap, move to level 30 after “a couple weeks,” and stay at 30 for the rest of testing. They also said launch starts fresh at level 1 and framed levels 30 to 60 as content not experienced during the beta.

The beta opened at 20, and Blizzard confirmed the raise to 30 for October 1. Staying at 30 for the rest of testing remains a developer statement. The Icy Veins report names the interview participants, but the temporary automatic English captions don't label who is speaking.

LaunchDevelopers described everyone starting fresh at level 1 and framed levels 30 to 60 as content not experienced during beta00:10:14 to 00:10:28; spoken direction, not written policy

The video is hosted by a third party, and the captions are automatic rather than a canonical Blizzard transcript. “A couple weeks” is approximate. The interview doesn't confirm the beta roster or a formal written wipe policy.

Requirements and Installation

Forever needs a Battle.net account, the Battle.net desktop app, and an internet connection, on Windows or Mac. The product page lists those platforms and the available regions Americas & Oceania, Europe, Korea, and Taiwan, and says digital content requires all three. Those are Forever product details, not a separate beta-only region matrix.

Blizzard's Forever system requirements page warns that the requirements may change. These are the current minimums:

PlatformMinimum listed by Blizzard
WindowsWindows 10 64-bit, May 2019 Update or newer; 4-core 3.0 GHz Intel Core Haswell or AMD Ryzen Zen processor; DirectX 12-capable 4 GB GPU; 8 GB RAM; 128 GB SSD; broadband internet; keyboard and mouse; 1280 x 720 display.
MacmacOS 12; Apple M2 or ninth-generation Intel Core Coffee Lake processor; 8 GB RAM; 128 GB SSD; broadband internet; keyboard and mouse; 1280 x 720 display.

The full Windows and Mac requirement tables hold the recommended rows as well. The rendered Mac video row is ambiguous. It currently reads "Metal capable 4 GB GPU Apple M2 8 GB", and the table does not make clear how those values map to the requirement.Blizzard: World of Warcraft: Forever System Requirements, checked Sep 12, 2026.

We don't turn that row into a more specific GPU rule.

For an account with beta access, Support says the beta client becomes available in the Battle.net App once testing begins. If it's missing, close and restart the app, then confirm you're signed in to the right account. Blizzard warns that the beta client may be offline at any time and that access can be revoked for Code of Conduct violations.

These Benefits Are Not Beta Access

None of these three gets you into the beta. Early Name Reservation and Invite-A-Friend codes are separate launch benefits, and Game Time only covers launch access:

BenefitPublished ruleStatus
Early Name Reservation and Character CreationOctober 27 through November 3, 2026, Pacific Time. Any upgrade purchase includes the window, which allows up to three characters on the purchasing WoW account. Names are first-come, first-served, and a desired name is not guaranteed.Confirmed, launch preparation only
Invite-A-Friend codesCodes begin emailing October 20. A redeemed code grants Forever access November 4 through November 11, 2026. Heroic grants one code. Epic and Collection grant three. Physical Collector's Edition codes also grant three under Support's listed conditions. The code does not grant beta access, Game Time, the Skyborne race, or Zephras Isle.Confirmed, launch week only
Subscription or Game TimeGrants Forever access beginning November 4. Epic and Collection include 30 days that activate at launch. The physical Collector's Edition's included time activates when its digital code is claimed.Confirmed, launch access only

See Invite-A-Friend Codes and 30-Day Game Time From World of Warcraft: Forever for the separate launch rules.

Since version 13 (September 14 at 15:40:52Z), and still in version 16 (September 18), Support says Battle.net purchases will send one individual email per Invite-A-Friend code beginning October 20, 2026. Purchases made after October 20 should receive the code(s) shortly after purchase.

It also says the three physical Collector's Edition codes come on top of three already obtained from a digital purchase, for a stated total of six. The article separately lists Heroic as one code, so it doesn't clarify whether a Heroic-to-Collector's-Edition path totals four or six. Don't treat either total as settled for that combination.

Signup Route and Limits

Support documents a signup route on the official World of Warcraft website, but says signup doesn't guarantee beta access. Its current link points to the Forever beta opt-in section. A September 14 check found the official page's Beta & Game Updates section and Beta Opt-In modal trigger. No completed submission or confirmation receipt was verified.

We didn't find an official preload date, pre-download window, beta build number, download size, standalone installer, or more detailed launcher path. Don't treat player reports about early downloads or missing logos as Blizzard requirements.

Reported Separately

WarcraftTeam's reply points to fresh servers, but it says nothing about what happens to beta characters.

In a community questions thread, the official WarcraftTeam account replied, "It will be fresh servers." Read the fresh-server reply as a narrow report about fresh servers. It doesn't say whether beta characters are wiped, retained, copied, or transferred.

Not Announced

Beta wipes, transfers, and carried-over progress have no written rule in the first-party sources we checked. Those sources publish no Forever-specific rule for:

  • beta wipes, progression retention, character copies, migration, or transfers;
  • carrying achievements, collections, or titles from another WoW version;
  • carrying gold, mounts, pets, or professions from another version;
  • moving characters between accounts, realms, regions, factions, or versions;
  • realm names, queues, capacity, datacenters, or cross-region play;
  • a separate subscription-specific policy for beta participation;
  • an NDA, recording or streaming rule, or feedback cadence;
  • a formal feedback route or scheduled wipe.

The one subscription point on record is the statement that game time is not required for beta participation.

The general Character Transfer Information and Restrictions article doesn't name Forever, so it doesn't fill these gaps. For the full access checklist and open questions, see the beta access checklist.
