Elemental Mastery returns at 31 points and Lava Burst moves to 21; current gameplay remains unverified.

October 15 Update
Blizzard's October 15 beta notes describe Arcane Blast as a 1.5-second cast. Each cast adds Spell Damage equal to 15% of the Mage's Intellect, stacking up to four times; the effect increases Arcane Blast's Mana cost and lasts 15 seconds from its first application.
The notes say Arcane Blast's damage and Spell Damage coefficients are each reduced 40%, while its base Mana cost is unchanged. Missile Barrage is a two-point first-row talent, and the notes say it now also grants a chance for Arcane Missiles hits to trigger Missile Barrage. Arcane Wrath is the 16-point gold-medal talent.
These are announced beta changes, not independently verified live-game behavior.Source: Blizzard's October 15 beta development notes, post 6 by Kaivax; retrieved October 18, 2026.
The article below preserves the October 7 deep dive as a dated announcement snapshot. The October 15 notes supersede three October 7 Mage details: Arcane Blast’s cast time, its buff effect and duration, and Missile Barrage’s 16-point placement.
The notes list Clearcasting fixes: they stop a roll for every target struck, remove Dampen Magic and Amplify Magic triggers, and remove triggers from abilities cast outside combat. They do not mention Arcane Concentration's downranking penalty or Arcane Blast's talent tier.
This compares post 6 with the October 7 account; it does not establish that every other October 7 mechanic remains unchanged.
More October 15 Mage Changes
The same notes give Cone of Cold an additional 10% movement slow and 3 seconds of slow duration on the first four targets hit. Fire Power becomes a three-point talent, increasing damage done by Fire spells by 1%/2%/3% per eligible Mage Fire effect on the target, up to 12%.
Mixed-school spells do not grant that increase; Frostfire Bolt can benefit from it.Source: Blizzard's October 15 beta notes, post 6, last edited October 16 UTC; checked October 18, 2026. Beta gameplay has not been tested.
October 15 Shaman Changes
Grace of Air is no longer exclusive with Windfury Totem or Flametongue Totem; Windfury and Flametongue remain exclusive. Grace of Air Totem, Strength of Earth Totem, Windfury Totem and Flametongue Totem become raid-wide.
Elemental Mastery returns as the 31-point gold-medal talent, while Lava Burst moves to row 5 as the 21-point gold-medal talent, gains a fourth rank with ranks reflowed and no longer has a prerequisite. These changes replace the October 7 account only for Grace of Air exclusivity, Windfury/Flametongue Totem party-wide scope and the two Elemental talent placements.
The notes retain Windfury/Flametongue Totem exclusivity and do not address their October 7 weapon-imbue restrictions.Source: Blizzard's October 15 beta notes, post 6, last edited October 16 UTC; checked October 18, 2026. Beta gameplay has not been tested.
The notes also reduce Chain Lightning's Mana cost by approximately 35% on all four ranks. Fire Nova's Spell Power coefficient changes from 0.214 to 0.143, with its base damage and Mana cost described as significantly reduced. Elemental Reach adds a 10/20-second reduction to Totemic Projection's cooldown. Stormstrike costs 8% of base Mana instead of 125 Mana.
These are separate cost and talent changes, not new cast-time or maximum-Mana formulas.Source: Blizzard's October 15 beta notes, post 6, last edited October 16 UTC; checked October 18, 2026. Beta gameplay has not been tested.
Blizzard's Mage and Shaman deep dive is dated October 7. It explains what the changes are trying to achieve, rather than presenting a new dated beta build. The distinction matters: a spell described here is not proof that a fresh patch went live that day.
Mage in the October 7 Deep Dive: Spell Schools That Work Together

arrives at level 40 with a three-second cast. It counts as both Fire and Frost, uses the higher of the Mage's bonuses to those schools, and checks the lower of the target's corresponding resistances. Blizzard describes it as a way to make hybrid Fire/Frost talent builds work together, with direct damage, damage over time, and a movement slow.
was designed to set up another spell. The October 7 deep dive described it as an 11-point talent granting a spell with a 2.5-second cast. It said the buff increased the damage of other Mage spells and Arcane Blast’s own Mana cost, stacked up to four times, and lasted eight seconds or until another spell was cast.
Blizzard described the goal as rewarding use of the wider toolkit after building stacks.Source: Blizzard, Mage: Baseline Abilities and Arcane talents
In the October 7 deep dive, the 16-point Arcane milestone was Missile Barrage. It could make the next Arcane Missiles channel twice as fast for no Mana. Arcane Blast, Fireball, Frostbolt, and Frostfire Bolt could trigger it, with double the chance on Arcane Blast.Source: Blizzard's Mage and Shaman deep dive
Fire gets individual Ignite debuffs per Mage, addressing some damage and threat attribution problems, plus improvements to prevent lost damage from closely timed critical strikes. Frost moves Ice Block to the 16-point milestone and Cold Snap to the 21-point milestone; Cold Snap's cooldown rises to ten minutes.
Blizzard also explains the farming restrictions. Cone of Cold's shorter duration targets repetitive low-risk farming and boosting.
Improved Blizzard's maximum slow is 40%, down from 65%, to curb AoE instance farming. Arcane Concentration has a lower proc chance from significantly downranked spells to discourage fishing for free effects; Blizzard says similar talents across classes receive that penalty.Source: Blizzard, Mage baseline abilities and Arcane and Frost talents
Use the Mage guide and talent calculator to explore the trees. The announcement explains design intent; it does not establish a best damage build.
Shaman in the October 7 Deep Dive: Less Repeated Totem Setup

Totems use a one-second global cooldown, down from 1.5 seconds. Persistent buff totems last five minutes instead of two; shorter-duration totems are unaffected. A tracking interface shows active totems and their remaining duration, with right-click dismissal. Resistance Totems apply their resistance bonus to the entire raid.
Weapon imbues last 60 minutes instead of five. Blizzard's October 7 list includes Frostbrand Weapon, Flametongue Weapon, Rockbiter Weapon, and Windfury Weapon. They can coexist with temporary weapon enchantments such as Sharpening Stones, Weight Stones, and Wizard Oil.Source: Blizzard, Shaman: Baseline Abilities
Call of the Elements unlocks the totem bar at level 20 and summons a preset of four totems after a three-second cast. Call of the Spirits adds a second preset at level 30, and Call of the Ancestors adds a third at level 40.
Totemic Projection, learned at level 22, moves all totems to a new location within 30 yards, with a one-minute baseline cooldown and a cost of 25% base Mana in the October 7 description. The October 15 Elemental Reach update above adds a talent reduction to that cooldown.
Totemic Recall is learned at level 20 and is designed to destroy the totems and return 25% of their Mana cost. The October 7 deep dive flagged a beta bug preventing the Mana refund. Blizzard's October 1 notes list the Mana-refund issue as fixed, even though the October 7 deep dive still described the bug.
The October 1 notes were last edited October 2 UTC, before that deep dive. The October 15 notes add only a trainer-price fix, from 70 silver to 22 silver.

Shaman Talent Milestones and Role Limits in the October 7 Deep Dive
In the October 7 description, Fire Nova replaces Fire Nova Totem and erupts at the current Fire Totem. Windfury Totem and Flametongue Totem become party buffs instead of weapon enchants, with stacking restrictions: Windfury Totem cannot coexist with Grace of Air or Flametongue Totem, and a Shaman cannot benefit from the corresponding totem while using or .
Tranquil Air Totem is removed.
Lightning Bolt at rank 4 and above drops to a 2.5-second cast; Chain Lightning drops to two seconds. Their spell-power coefficients are reduced accordingly.Source: Blizzard, Shaman baseline abilities
Enhancement moves Stormstrike to the 16-point milestone and reduces its cooldown to eight seconds. It boosts your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, or Earth Shock by 20%. Separately, the new Maelstrom Weapon talent lets melee attacks build charges that reduce Lightning Bolt's cast time, up to instant.
The October 7 31-point talents were Lava Burst for Elemental, Rage of the Farseer for Enhancement, and Riptide for Restoration. Rage of the Farseer is a personal three-minute cooldown that increases attack speed by 30% for 25 seconds. Mana Tide Totem moves to the 16-point milestone.
Elemental Mastery was removed in that account; Blizzard said retaining it would prevent appropriate PvE damage tuning without excessive PvP strength.Source: Blizzard, Shaman talents
The developer text describes Enhancement's high-threat tools as supporting temporary tanking in small groups. That is the scope of the claim, not a promise of a dedicated raid-tank role. See the Shaman guide for the class overview.Source: Blizzard, Shaman talents and class summary
